New deal with Al Aqeeq reinforces Group’s strategic plans to further expand its presence in KSA

December 21, 2016 – In support of the Saudi government’s efforts to boost the domestic travel and tourism sector in line with the country’s economic diversification scheme, Elaf Group, a SEDCO Holding Group company, has recently entered into a strategic lease partnership agreement with Al Aqeeq Real Estate Development to rent the Al Majeedi Residential Center situated in front of Al-Masjid Al-Nabawi, north of Madinah Al Munawara.

The agreement was signed by Ziyad Bin Mahfouz, CEO, Elaf Group, and Aymen Bin Hamza Saeed, CEO of Al Aqeeq Real Estate Development and CEO of Taiba Holding Company.

Under terms of the agreement, the Al Majeedi Residential Center will be renamed as Elaf Al Majeedi Hotel—serving as the latest addition to the growing portfolio of Elaf Hotels Company, a subsidiary of the Elaf Group. The new hotel is expected to accommodate the growing number of tourists who visit the KSA for religious purposes such as Hajj and Umrah as well as to see religious sights and its rich cultural traditions.

Bin Mahfouz pointed out that the move complements the Group’s expansion strategies to strengthen its presence in the country by providing the highest quality of hospitality services to the visitors arriving in Al Madinah Al Munawara.

Bin Mahfouz explained that the number of tourists arriving in the KSA is expected to register a continuous upwards momentum in the coming years, complementing the ‘Saudi Vision 2030,’ which was launched by the government of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques. “Expansion and development are key priorities of the Elaf Group to achieve excellence by constantly innovating its services and keeping them relevant and up-to-date as per the market requirements. The signing of this new lease agreement with Al Aqeeq Real Estate Development is part of our ongoing efforts to reinforce the Group’s leading position in the hospitality sector across Saudi Arabia and the Middle East,” concluded Bin Mahfouz.

21 ديسمبر 2016 - في مبادرة نوعية لدعم الجهود الوطنية الرامية للارتقاء بقطاع السفر والسياحة والفنادق في السوق المحلية تماشياً مع سياسة التنويع الاقتصادي التي تنتهجها المملكة العربية السعودية، أعلنت "مجموعة إيلاف"، المنضوية تحت مظلة الشركة السعودية للاقتصاد والتنمية "سدكو القابضة"، عن توقيع عقد إيجار مع "شركة العقيق للتنمية العقارية" مؤخّراً، وذلك لاستئجار مركز المجيدي السكني الواقع في مقابل الجهة الشمالية للمسجد النبوي الشريف بالمدينة المنوّرة.

وقام بتوقيع الاتفاقية كل من زياد بن محفوظ الرئيس التنفيذي لـ "مجموعة إيلاف"، وأيمن بن حمزة سعيد، الرئيس التنفيذي لشركة "العقيق للتنمية العقارية" والرئيس التنفيذي لشركة ''طيبة القابضة". وبموجب الاتّفاقية الموقّعة، سيتم تغيير اسم المركز السكني إلى "فندق إيلاف المجيدي"، بما يشكّل إضافةً هامةً إلى الجهود الحثيثة التي تقوم بها "شركة إيلاف للفنادق"، إحدى شركات "مجموعة إيلاف"، لاستيعاب الأعداد المتنامية من السائحين القادمين إلى المملكة العربية السعودية لأغراض دينية من أداء مناسك الحج والعمرة وزيارة المعالم الدينية والأثرية العريقة التي تحتضنها الدولة.

وأكّد زياد بن محفوظ، الرئيس التنفيذي لـ"مجموعة إيلاف"، أن هذه الخطوة تأتي استكمالاً للخطّة الاستراتيجية التي تنتهجها المجموعة في إطار سعيها المستمر لترسيخ مكانتها الريادية على الساحة المحلية من خلال تقديم أفضل خدمات الضيافة ذات الجودة العالية والمواصفات العالمية لزوّار مدينة رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم.

أوريس تدعم موسيقى الجاز بإصدار جديد يجمع بين أناقة التصميم والكفاءة العالية

تعود شركة أوريس إلى عهد موسيقى الجاز وذلك من خلال إصدار محدود مستوحى من عازف الساكسفون "ديكستر جوردن".

يعود ارتباط أوريس بعالم موسيقى الجاز إلى سنوات عديدة خلت، ولقد أصبحت  إصدارات الشركة المحدودة من الساعات المستوحاة من عالم الجاز، من أفضل القطع التي يحتفظ بها مقتنوها. وفي هذا العام يسر شركة أوريس الإعلان عن ساعة صُنعت لتخلد واحدا من أعظم عازفي الجاز في القرن العشرينن ألا وهو "ديكستر جوردن".

ولد ديكستر جوردن عام 1923 في لوس أنجلوس بولاية كاليفورنيا. كان والده واحدا من أوائل الأطباء الأفرومريكيين، وقد كان من بين مرضاة اثنين من عازفي الجاز الأسطوريين، ديوك ألينتون ولاينل هامبتن. بعد تعلمه العزف على المزمار، انتقل ديكستر في الخامسة عشر من عمره إلى آلة الساكسفون، وفي سن السابعة عشر، اكتشف ديكستر آلة الساكسفون ذات الصوت الصادح، تلك الآلة التي سيصبح فيما بعد من رواد عازفيها.

وإلى حد بعيد يعد ديكستر أول موسيقي ينتقل بلغة الجاز الحديث التي تعود إلى منتصف القرن العشرين – التي ابتكرها أمثال شارلي باركر ودايزي جيليسبي والمعروفة باسم "بيبوب" – إلى موسيقى الساكسفون الصادح. فقد قام بالعديد من التسجيلات والعروض، سواء كرائد عزف أو كمرافق لكبار موسيقيي الجاز، بما في ذلك لويس أرومسترونج، ونات كينغ كول وهيربي هانكوك. اتجه ديكستر، وفي وقت لاحق من حياته، إلى التمثيل، ليُرشح لنيل جائزة الأوسكار عن دوره في الفيلم الصادر عام 1986 "راوند ميدنايت". تُوفي ديكستر جوردن عام 1990.

ومن المنتظر أن يتوفر إصدار "أوريس ديكستر جوردن الإصدار المحدود" الذي حُدد عدده بـ 1,000 قطعة، اعتبارا من شهر يناير/ كانون الثاني في الأسواق بسعر 1,800 فرنك سويسري للقطعة. وقال ديكستر ذات مرة: "الجاز بالنسبة لي هو موسيقى تنبض بالحياة، فهي موسيقى عبرت منذ لحظاتها الأولى عن مشاعر الناس وأحلامهم وآمالهم".

Digital Shadows Report Reveals that the Mirai Botnet Isn’t Going Away

Digital Shadows Report highlights the inherent vulnerability of basing network infrastructure around centralized DNS providers

Dubai, UAE, December 26, 2016: Digital Shadows, a provider of cyber situational awareness, released its new report Mirai and The Future, Forecasting the DDoS Landscape in 2017. The emergence of the Mirai botnet - a type of malware that automatically finds Internet of Things (IoT) devices to infect - earlier this year was hailed as a major development in malware but according to the report, this could be a tip of the iceberg as cybercriminals rush to adapt and develop the original Mirai code.

Mirai translates from Japanese as the ‘future’ and if claims by actors such as BestBuy and Popopret are true, the total number of IoT devices infected with Mirai has increased since this malware variant was publicly released on September 30, 2016.  

“We know criminals move quickly to exploit new malware and techniques and find new ways to monetize them for profit,” said Rick Holland, VP Strategy at Digital Shadows. “So we can see a time when DDoS extortion actors have succeeded in creating new models for generating a ransom payment. Instead of solely relying on a target company, groups will use social media platforms to crowdsource the ransom payment from users who are dependent on the service,” Holland said.

Mirai botnet is part of an emerging global trend of large and complex cyberattacks that are difficult to spot and even more difficult to prevent in an increasingly digitalised world. Countries in the Middle are witnessing significant economic and technological transformation due to growing business opportunities in large industries such as banking, financial services, insurance (BFSI) and the region’s dominance in heavy industries such as oil and gas.

“As organisations and individuals in the Middle East and especially the UAE and Saudi Arabia turn increasingly towards internet enabled devices, it is even more critical there is better awareness of the problem,” said Holland. “Businesses selling Internet enables devices have to be aware of the risks and do more to secure these devices. We are consumers, need to ensure we use the same degree of Cybersecurity scrutiny and awareness as we do surfing the web from a PC.”

The Mirai botnet first discovered earlier in the summer utilizes ‘Internet-of-Things’ (IoT) devices, such as Internet-enabled digital video recorders (DVRs), surveillance cameras, and other Internet-enabled embedded devices, and has been utilized by attackers to launch multiple high-profile, high-impact DDoS attacks against various Internet properties and services, including Talk Talk and the Post Office in the UK.

There are three main motivations behind those who use DDoS as a tactic:

1. Online protest, typically planned, orchestrated and launched by hacktivist groups. These campaigns have targeted specified industries and geographies, both in the private and public sector.
2. Financial profitability, a significant motivation for a number of actors, such as extortion actors who use the threat of DoS or DDoS in return for a ransom payment. This is largely, although not exclusively, the preserve of the cybercriminal. DDoS attacks may also be used as a distraction for network intrusions conducted for profit.
3. Political gain, launched by nation state affiliated actors.

Mirai has proven itself to be remarkably flexible and adaptable as a result of which hackers can develop different strains of Mirai that can take over new vulnerable IoT devices and increase the population Mirai botnets can draw on. The report suggests that 2017 is likely to see a range of new Mirai variants utilizing and adapting the original source code to target organisations and governments, by hacktivists, cybercriminals motivated by financial gain through extortion and politically motivate actors.
