Orange announces the winners of the sixth edition of the Orange Social Venture Prize for Africa and the Middle East

More than 750 candidates responded to the call for projects, which ran from May to September 2016, reflecting the potential of the telecommunications sector to support development in Africa and Middle East in fields as diverse as healthcare, agriculture, education and energy

PARIS, France, November 17, 2016/ -- Orange (www.Orange.com) is announced the winners of the 2016 Orange Social Venture Prize for Africa and the Middle East during the AfricaCom Awards ceremony held in Cape Town, South Africa, last night. The prize, which aims to encourage start-ups in Africa to launch innovative projects that promote development, has been extended this year to the Middle East. A new award, the Special Prize for Cultural Content, has also been introduced. For the sixth year in a row, the Orange Group is recognizing four innovative projects that further development within the region. The objective is to stimulate entrepreneurs' initiatives that use new technologies to meet the needs of people in Africa and the Middle East. More than 750 candidates responded to the call for projects, which ran from May to September 2016, reflecting the potential of the telecommunications sector to support development in Africa and Middle East in fields as diverse as healthcare, agriculture, education and energy. Eleven projects were shortlisted and presented on Orange's new pan-African web portal for entrepreneurs in the region, Entrepreneur Club (http://EntrepreneurClub.Orange.com/en). The winners were then selected by a jury made up of experts from Orange, journalists, investors and institutions that promote development. The three prize-winners received grants of 25,000, 15,000 and10,000 EUR, and the winner of the Special Prize for Cultural Content received 5,000 EUR. In addition, the shortlisted finalists and the winner of the Special Prize for Cultural Content will benefit from six months of support from Orange experts and the NGO Grow Movement (http://GrowMovement.org). The first prize winner will also be offered a patent registration. Bruno Mettling, CEO of Orange MEA, said: "with nearly 3,500 projects filed since 2011, the Orange Social Venture prize has grown into a huge success; the 750 candidate projects that were submitted in 2016 amply illustrate this. The start-up ecosystem now increasingly recognizes Orange as an indispensable partner that is able to support their development: 95% of the winning start-ups since the award’s inception are still growing today. I thank them for their confidence." The winning projects: The first prize was awarded to MedTrucks, Morocco MedTrucks (http://APO.af/i5uLvA) was created to support patients and healthcare professionals through the deployment of mobile care units in “medical deserts” in Morocco and other emerging countries. These hyper-connected trucks, that are fully equipped for all essential medical needs and can rely on tele-medicine tools if necessary, aim to fill a blank in these isolated areas by providing care at the right time and the right place. MedTrucks is developing a variety of services including real-time cartography and tracking that will help optimize care service delivery to patients, as well as a medical online training platform for professionals. The second prize was awarded to Nanoé, Madagascar Nanoé’s (http://APO.af/QH8zjD) ambition is to deploy a new kind of electrification system, known as “lateral electrification”, in order to meet the short-term needs of remote populations that do not have access to the main energy grid. Nanoé seeks to offer rapid, flexible and affordable access to electricity, while participating in the construction of a cutting-edge power infrastructure that is low carbon, decentralized, collaborative and smart. Nanoé’s project also includes a major training platform designed for future local-level operators. The third prize was awarded to Ma Tontine, Senegal MaTontine (http://APO.af/fFzaNc) seeks to solve the problem of how to provide financial services, including the provision of small loans, to the poor. It is based on a traditional, non-digital system, called the Tontine (in French), that enables the organization of rotating savings and credit schemes across a small group of people (colleagues, friends, neighbors, etc.). The innovation is to build a digital platform that automates this whole process and incorporates a credit-scoring system in order to facilitate small loans and other financial services such as micro-insurance based on the credit score of the group members. The Special Prize for Cultural Content was awarded to Bulles Magazine, Côte d’Ivoire Bulles Magazine (http://APO.af/E6lRgX) is a monthly magazine for 6-10-year old children that promotes African culture. Available in digital and paper versions, Bulles Magazine will be accessible throughout the Francophone world and beyond. The originality of this project lies in the fact that Bulles Magazine will tell children the story of the kings and queens who ruled the African continent long ago. Each month, children will read about African heroes of the past but also contemporary heroes such as renowned inventors from Africa. Designed in a highly colorful and illustrated format, the paper and digital versions of the magazine will facilitate its distribution across Francophone countries. Finally, a “favourite project” was also selected by web users on the Entrepreneur Club (http://EntrepreneurClub.Orange.com/en)portal: Over 80,457 visitors out of a total of 390,000 voted for the Egyptian project FoodoGraphy (http://APO.af/DZ4yIe), a food-waste management platform that facilitates cooperation between food providers - such as hotels, restaurants, conference malls, etc. - and charities. Foodography aims to allow charities to collect surplus food that is still in good condition from these organizations in order to redistribute it to poor people registered with the charity. FoodoGraphy’s website will provide a directory that acts as a reference for charities and enables them to connect with food providers and organize the logistics of redistributing the surplus food.

ERICSSON’S 5G Global Survey Reveals new BUSINESS MODELS AND REVENUE STREAMS FOR Wireless Operators

Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) today unveiled the”5G Readiness Survey,” a global report that examines the actions leading edge services providers are taking now in anticipation of 5G; the priorities that drive their initiatives and how they can accelerate their 5G network deployments. The survey presents a snapshot of the state of the industry in relation to next-generation mobile technology.
The “5G Readiness Survey” was based on input from 50 executives at 29 global operators who had announced their intentions for 5G. Nearly all respondents pointed to growth in revenue and cost savings as the key drivers in their choice of use cases for 5G revenue. While the traditional focus has been on the consumer, the vast majority of those interviewed agreed that to monetize 5G, operators will also need to provide industry-specific services and find new revenue-sharing models.  High-potential revenue growth areas are third-party collaboration and the Internet of Things (IoT).

The survey lists the pilots that Ericsson is currently running with a wide range of industry partners in order to identify their needs and construct sustainable digital solutions for whole industry segments. 
According to the survey, operators can take steps now to ensure a smooth transition to 5G. Such activities include forging new strategies, investing in development and trials and evaluating and adopting new use cases and business models.
The survey highlights the advantage of having a partner with a strong 5G ecosystem who can help operators make a smooth transition to 5G.

Suez Governor joins DP World to open Kidney Dialysis and Incubator Units at Al Sabah Hospital

Initiative meets Ministry of Health’s plans to improve healthcare services in Suez Governorate 

Cairo, Egypt, 16 November, 2017: DP World Sokhna opened kidney dialysis and incubator units at Al Sabah Hospital today after completing its renovation and upgrading the neonatal intensive care unit. The official inauguration took place in the presence of senior DP World and Egyptian Government officials as part of the company’s sustainability efforts. 

The ceremony was held in the presence of Major General Ahmed Mohamed Hamid, Suez Governor, Mr. Suhail Al Banna, Senior Vice-President and Managing Director of DP World Middle East and Africa Region, Mr. John Fewer, CEO, DP World Sokhna, and senior officials, including Major General Dr. Mostafa Shehata, Head of the Suez Security Directorate, General Ahmed Walei El Deen, Chief of Staff of the Third Field Army and Health Minister's advisor for Hospitals’ Development, Dr. Nanees Adel. 

DP World – Sokhna has funded the establishment of the kidney dialysis and incubator units at the hospital as well as providing the latest equipment. The project is part of a series of sustainability initiatives under the company’s campaign “Together for Egypt’s Future.” The renovations included the upgrade of the kidney dialysis unit, in addition to upgrading the neonatal intensive care unit by equipping it with ten incubators. The initiative was part of  a Memorandum of Understanding that DP World – Sokhna signed with the Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population last November. Under the agreement, DP World – Sokhna was to buy medical equipment and develop a plan for evaluating equipment performance in collaboration with the Suez Health Directorate. The Ministry of Health supervised work on the project, providing technical support.  

Suhail Al Banna, Senior Vice-President and Managing Director, DP World Middle East and Africa Region, said: “The sustainable development of the communities in which we operate is a key part of our business alongside the efficiency of our operational performance. As global trade enablers we aim to contribute to economies and to societies, enriching lives for the benefit of all.”

مبادرة موانئ دبي العالمية- السخنة تدعم خطة الحكومة المصرية للارتقاء بالخدمات الصحية في محافظة السويس

القاهرة في 16 نوفمبر 2017 – في إطار التزامها باستدامة المجتمعات التي تعمل فيها، افتتحت موانئ دبي العالمية- السخنة اليوم وحدتي الغسيل الكلوي والأطفال المبتسرين في مركز طب الأسرة في مستشفى الصباح بمحافظة السويس بعد استكمال أعمال تأسيس وتجهيز الوحدتين بأحدث المعدات الطبية.  

حضر الافتتاح أعضاء الإدارة العليا في موانئ دبي العالمية- السخنة، وعدد من كبار المسئولين في الحكومة المصرية ومحافظة السويس.  

أقيمت مراسم الافتتاح تحت رعاية وبحضور كل اللواء/ أحمد حامد، محافظ السويس، والسيد/ سهيل البنا- نائب الرئيس الأول ومدير عام منطقة الشرق الأوسط وأفريقيا في موانئ دبي العالمية ، والسيد/ جون فيوار- المدير التنفيذي لموانئ دبي العالمية – السخنة، بالإضافة  إلى عدد من كبار المسئولين بما في ذلك اللواء الدكتور/ مصطفى شحاتة، مدير أمن السويس واللواء/ أحمد ولي الدين، رئيس أركان الجيش الثالث الميداني والدكتورة/ نانيس عادل، مستشارة وزير الصحة.   

الجدير بالذكر أن موانئ دبي العالمية- السخنة قامت بتمويل أعمال إنشاء وحدتي الغسيل الكلوي والأطفال المبتسرين وتجهيزهما بأحدث المعدات الطبية  كجزء من مبادرات الاستدامة التي تنفذها الشركة تحت شعار "معاً من أجل مستقبل مصر".  

تضمنت أعمال التطوير تحديث وحدة الغسيل الكُلوي وتزويدها بعشرة أجهزة طبية متطورة، فضلاً عن تطوير وحدة العناية المركزة للأطفال المبتسرين وإمدادها بعشرة حضانات مجهزة بالكامل لرفع كفاءة الخدمة الطبية للمرضى من أبناء محافظة السويس والمناطق المحيطة بها.  

تأتي هذه المبادرة تنفيذا لاتفاقية التعاون التي وقعتها شركة موانئ دبي العالمية- السخنة مع وزارة الصحة والسكان في شهر نوفمبر من العام الماضي، والتي نصت على قيام الشركة بكافة عمليات الشراء والتعاقد للمعدات والمستلزمات الطبية بالتعاون مع مديرية الصحة بالسويس. نصت مذكرة التعاون أيضاً على قيام وزارة الصحة والسكان باتخاذ الإجراءات اللازمة لتسهيل سير العمل بالمشروع، وتقديم الدعم الفني فيما يتعلق بالمواصفات الفنية والطبية للتجهيزات والمعدات المستخدمة. 

وبالمناسبة قال السيد/ سهيل البنا- نائب الرئيس الأول ومدير عام منطقة الشرق الأوسط وأفريقيا في موانئ دبي العالمية:

"تعد التنمية المستدامة في المجتمعات التي نعمل فيها غاية في الأهمية شأنها شأن اهتمامنا بالعمليات التشغيلية لمحطاتنا. نسعى حيثما تواجدنا إلى بناء إرث للأجيال القادمة ونساهم ليس فقط في بناء اقتصادات الدول إنما أيضا في تحقيق التنمية المستدامة للمجتمعات المحلية. تأتي هذه المبادرة لتؤكد مجددا التزامنا بالسوق والمجتمع المصري."
