AUC’S PUBLIC POLICY, ADMINISTRATION FIRST IN REGION TO RECEIVE GLOBAL NASPAA ACCREDITATION

September 29, 2015, Cairo – The Master of Public Administration and the Master of Public Policy at The American University in Cairo (AUC) are the first two graduate programs in the Middle East and the third outside the United States to receive accreditation from the Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs and Administration (NASPAA). AUC is also the first institution outside of the United States with two accredited programs from NASPAA. “NASPAA accreditation is one of the most respected and sought-after acknowledgments for any public policy and public administration program around the world. Achieving such recognition — secured by only a few universities outside the United States — in less than a few years since the school's founding is a real testament to the quality of education offered at AUC’s Global Affairs and Public Policy School, “ said AUC President Lisa Anderson commending both the School of Global Affairs and Public Policy and the Department of Public Policy and Administration. “It is a critical component of the work being done at the school to build a strong culture of public service for graduates who work in Egypt and the region,” she added.

Considered as the “authoritative accrediting body in the field of public policy, affairs and administration,” the U.S.-based NASPAA is a membership association of nearly 300 schools of public policy, public affairs, public administration, and public and nonprofit management, located across the United States and in 15 other countries. NASPAA is also the recognized global accreditor of master’s programs in these fields.

Ambassador Nabil Fahmy, dean of the School of Global Affairs and Public Policy, reflected on the importance of this recognition for AUC. “NASPAA’s accreditation of both the public administration and public policy master’s programs offered by the Department of Public Policy and Administration just five years after the founding of the School of Global Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) reflects the highest standards of academic recognition for these programs and is a testimony to the unwavering commitment and professionalism of the faculty and administration at the departmental, school and University levels,” said Fahmy. “This stellar and exceptional recognition of programs outside North America provides further impetus for excellence at the department, at GAPP and at AUC, including many of our exceptional students who are already establishing themselves as insightful academicians and leaders in their communities.”

Laurel McFarland, executive director of NASPAA, noted, “The American University in Cairo has been a long-time member of NASPAA and has contributed greatly to our understanding of international public affairs education by convening panels and other NASPAA activities over the years. It is with great pleasure that I congratulate AUC for achieving NASPAA accreditation.”

NASPAA accreditation is a rigorous peer review process that requires years of self-study, peer review and a demonstrated effort to improve quality. Accredited programs measure student knowledge and their preparedness to be successful public service professionals.

AUC’s Master of Public Policy and Master of Public Administration programs train students for leadership in upper management positions in public service and for careers as policy analysts. According to Hamid Ali, associate professor and chair of the Department of Public Policy and Administration, NASPAA’s Commission on Peer Review and Accreditation had more than 35 meetings with faculty, students and alumni, as well as the dean of the School of Global Affairs and Public Policy and AUC president and provost.

“The site visit team from NASPAA inspected our records to ensure the existence of mechanisms for supporting faculty on issues related to teaching, research and student engagement,” Ali explained. “NASPAA is strict on the program’s support and supervision of students. It analyzed evidence of student learning on the required competencies and used that evidence to guide program improvement. It was a very intense institutional process, but was also a good opportunity to evaluate and assess the quality of our academic offerings, as well as improve our mechanics and deliverables. What this accreditation shows is that even though the public policy and administration program is only six years old, it has reached a level of maturity that makes it on par with peer programs in the United States and abroad.”

During the 2009 - 2010 academic year, Ali noted, the public policy and administration program underwent a major structural transformation, through which the separation of the public policy and public administration programs –– a process that began in 2007 –– was completed. A new Master of Public Policy was established, and the Master of Public Administration was reinvigorated as a separate degree. Each of the two degrees offered two concentrations, and new courses were introduced. Additional faculty members were also hired to support the growing number of students. In addition, the program has expanded its research activities and outreach, improving its ability to meet the complex needs of Egypt and the region for excellence in public governance.

“The public policy and administration program has continued to grow and is now one of the largest graduate programs on campus, as measured by the number of students enrolled,” Ali said. “Our strategy has always been focused on expanding interest in the programs, increasing the size of the student body and being competitive at a local, regional and global level. The NASPAA accreditation has raised the international profile of the public policy and public administration graduate programs.” 

Emphasizing the contributions of students, Ali noted, “This accreditation, tells more about the quality of students the School of GAAP has attracted throughout the years. There are many to credit for this, including Youssef Jameel, whose generous Youssef Jameel GAPP Public Leadership Fellowship targets students who would be able to take on leadership roles in the areas of public policy and administration in Egypt’s government and nonprofit sectors.”

Ali added, “The Department of Public Policy and Administration and the School of GAPP have now joined a diverse global network of more than 190 programs to advance the agenda of public service and to build a better future for the people of Egypt and the region. We are telling the world that despite the turbulence in our region, we are working to transform individuals for the common good. We will keep broadening our curricula and introducing a global perspective in order to present the Middle East and Africa’s narrative to the rest of the world.”

Tasneef launches the Abu Dhabi Summit of Global Marine and Maritime Leaders

The importance of the UAE as a country of great relevance in the maritime industry is underpinned by the huge successes of its maritime cluster and strength of its port operations

Abu Dhabi_ 30 September 2015:  Under the patronage and the presence of H.E Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammad Belhaif Al Nuaimi, UAE Minister of Public Works and the Chairman of the Federal Authority for Land and Maritime Transport, Emirates Classification Society “Tasneef” successfully signed a partnership agreement with the Mare Forum International Committee to host the “the Abu Dhabi Summit of Global Marine and Maritime Leaders” on 20 January 2016.

The summit will be held with a great interest and involvement from the international and regional maritime shipping sectors, during which speakers will provide valuable information on the various factors affecting the clusters, the conclusions of intellectual ideas and will explore the prospects of future developments.

H.E Dr. Al Nuaimi explained that “the Abu Dhabi Summit of Global Marine and Maritime Leaders” is of strategic significance as it underpins efforts to improve the maritime sector in the UAE, which in turn, has high level competitive potentials. He added “We are confident in our ability to achieve qualitative development and make the radical shift to promote the local maritime sector to a new level of growth and sustainability in collaboration with our strategic partners in the public and private sectors. We look forward for the Mare Forum to significantly tackle the application of maritime strategic axes which will have a central role in activating the contribution of the maritime sector in driving the growth of vital economic sectors and turn Abu Dhabi into a major center of entrepreneurship and investment.”

Towards a sustainable development in the maritime sector

Eng. Rashed AlHebsi, CEO of Tasneef emphasized the importance of Tasneef’s partnership with the Mare Forum saying that “We recognize the importance of the Mare Forum in promoting interactive discussions among international leaders within the global maritime industry that could direct the future of international maritime and shipping industry and a number of allied sectors. The 2016 Mare Forum also aims to recognize the global role played by the UAE in general and Abu Dhabi in particular in leading ground breaking initiatives in the Maritime, offshore, oil, gas & energy sectors. Moreover, it holds a distinguished position within industry circles and maritime transport, and can make a major impact on international business. 

H.E Khamis Juma Buamim, Senior Advisor for Mare Forum International Committee said, “In light with the positive feedback from speakers who expressed a strong desire to participate, the summit will provide an interactive platform that enables industry leaders to discuss important issues affecting the current reality of the industry and its future prospects on a global level.”

Buamim further elaborated that the UAE is looking towards consolidating its leading position as a global maritime hub and a strategic business location as there is a true drive to innovate.  Thus, the maritime sector still has tremendous potential and promising opportunities by building clusters that serve the overall economy growth cycle and will provide a solid foundation for reaching a new level of excellence and leadership.

أبو ظبي-الإمارات العربية المتحدة- 30سبتمبر :2015 تحت رعاية وحضور معالي الدكتور. عبدالله بن محمد بلحيف النعيمي، وزير الأشغال العامة ورئيس مجلس إدارة الهيئة الاتحادية للمواصلات البرية والبحرية، وقعت هيئة الإمارات للتصنيف "تصنيف" اتفاقية شراكة مع "لجنة ماري فورم الدولية" لاستضافة قمة أبوظبي الدولية للقيادات الملاحية والبحرية وذلك في 20 يناير 2016.

وستعقد القمة وسط اهتمام ومشاركة كبيرة من قبل مجتمع الملاحة والشحن البحري إقليمياً ودولياً، حيث سيقدم المشاركون معلومات هامة حول مختلف العوامل التي تؤثر على هذا القطاع، إضافة إلى تداول أفكار وموضوعات هامة حول تطوير فرصة اقتصادية في المستقبل.

حول هذه القمة أوضح معالي الدكتور الوزير عبد الله النعيمي أنها تعتبر فرصة استثنائية لتسليط الضوء على الجهود الإماراتية الكبيرة لتعزيز قطاع الملاحة في الدولة، والتي مكنتها من تحقيق تنافسية قوية في هذا المجال، وقال: "نحن على ثقة من قدرتنا على تحقيق تطوير نوعي في قطاع الملاحة المحلي والإقليمي، ليصل إلى مستويات من النماء والاستدامة عبر التعاون مع شركائنا الاستراتيجيين في القطاع العام والخاص، ونتطلع إلى أن يساهم "ماري فورم" بشكل جوهري في تحفيز ذلك التحول الاستراتيجي الذي نسعى لتحقيقه في بناء محاور اقتصادية رئيسة تكون أبوظبي فيها مركزاً أساس للاستثمارات ومشروعات رواد الأعمال".

نحو اقتصاد ملاحي مستدام

المهندس راشد الحبسي، الرئيس التنفيذي لتصنيف أكد على أهمية الشراكة مع "ماري فورم" قائلاً: "ندرك أهمية ماري فورم في تحفيز التفاعل وتبادل الأفكار بين القيادات الملاحية والبحرية وأصحاب القرار في هذه الصناعة الدولية، والتي ترسم مستقبل صناعة الملاحة والشحن وكل ما يرتبط بها من قطاعات اقتصادية، وستساهم قمة أبوظبي الدولية للقيادات الملاحية في تكامل القطاعات الملاحية الصاعدة في دولية الإمارات مع اللاعبين الكبار في العالم، كما ستعزز تواؤم هذا القطاع مع التوجهات العالمية، وهذا سيساعد على بناء جسور قوية وشراكات تدفع باتجاه رؤية قيادة الدولة في أن تكون الإمارات نواة لعنقود من الفعاليات الاقتصادية المتكاملة التي تتوسع في المنطقة".

وأضاف الحبسي: "نحن سعداء بالدخول في هذه الشراكة الاستراتيجية مع "ماري فورم" واستضافة هذا الجمع الهام من القيادات الإقليمية والدولية في صناعة الملاحة، وسيساهم حدث بهذا المستوى بمنح أبوظبي دوراً ريادياً في تأسيس اقتصاد ملاحي آمن ومستدام".

تنافسية الإمارات في الميدان الدولي

تأتي " قمة أبوظبي الدولية للقيادات الملاحية والبحرية" لتؤكد على الدور الذي تلعبه الإمارات عموماً وأبوظبي خصوصا في قيادة مجموعة من المبادرات الكبرى في قطاع الملاحة والنفط والغاز والطاقة ، إضافة إلى مركزها المتقدم في خدمات الموانئ والشحن البحري، ما يجعلها لاعب رئيس في التجارة الدولية.

HBMSU’s DCIBF wins ‘Best Research & Publications’ category at this year’s edition of the Global Islamic Finance Awards

UAE, September 30, 2015 - Dubai Center for Islamic Banking and Finance (DCIBF), an institution formed by the Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University (HBMSU), has won the ‘Best Research and Publications’ category in this year’s edition of the Global Islamic Finance Awards, which was held recently in Bahrain. The award complements DCIBF’s achievements to lead in knowledge creation, encourage investments in research and development, help boost the Arab economies and support the strategic objectives of leading initiatives launched by H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to establish Dubai as the capital of the global Islamic economy.

Prof. Nabil Baydoun, Vice Chancellor for Enterprise & University Advancement, HBMSU and CEO of DCIBF, personally received DCIBF’s award at this year’s GIFA ceremony in the presence of prominent government officials, diplomatic personalities and industry leaders, including H.R.H. الجائزة تؤكد تميز المركز في مواكبة مبادرة "دبي عاصمة الاقتصاد الإسلامي"

الإمارات، 30 سبتمبر، 5201 - حاز "مركز دبي للصيرفة والتمويل الإسلامي" (DCIBF)، المؤسسة البحثية والتدريبية الرائدة التابعة لـ "جامعة حمدان بن محمد الذكية"، على "جائزة أفضل دراسات بحثية 2015" من "جوائز التمويل الإسلامي العالمية 2015". ويأتي التكريم الأخير استكمالاً للإنجازات المتلاحقة التي يقودها المركز على صعيد إثراء المعرفة وتشجيع الاستثمار في البحث والتطوير، في سبيل الارتقاء بقطاع الصيرفة والتمويل الإسلامي في العالم العربي ودعم الأهداف الطموحة لمبادرة صاحب السمو الشيخ محمد بن راشد آل مكتوم، نائب رئيس الدولة رئيس مجلس الوزراء حاكم دبي "رعاه الله"، في جعل دبي عاصمة عالمية للاقتصاد الإسلامي.

UAE’s vibrant hotel sector creates strong demand for quality hygiene products

Dubai hotel openings at all-time-high with rooms to total 100,000 by 2020; Abu Dhabi records 20 per cent increase in hotel guests in Q1 2015

UAE, September 30, 2015 - Recent studies reflect a dynamic and rapidly-expanding UAE hotel sector which is being further encouraged by increasing investments towards hospitality infrastructure projects as well as the steadily growing number of visitors every year. Dubai, the leading city for hotel openings in the MENA region for the past three years, now has an all-time-high of 65,000 rooms with 45 per cent found in five-star properties. Abu Dhabi is also experiencing strong growth with almost 2,300 rooms to be completed within the year. The Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority (ADTCA) has also reported a 20 per cent increase in hotel guests in the first quarter of 2015 compared to Q1 of 2014.

The positive trend is set to continue as Dubai gears up for World Expo 2020 which will draw in a projected 20 million visitors a year and see the opening of 100,000 additional rooms in time for the event. Similarly, Abu Dhabi has 5,200 new rooms in the pipeline for 2017 alone. Such optimistic indicators reflect the vibrant economy of the whole country. It also fuels the growth of relevant industries and cultivates stronger demand for quality hygiene products to address the hospitality sector’s emerging needs. According to RISI's Outlook for World Tissue Business Forecast, in the Middle East region, the tissue business has exhibited a positive growth of 8.9 per cent annually since 1993, driven by the development of the economy and burgeoning population. This is set to continue as demand for tissue products across the Gulf is forecasted to expand at an average annual rate of 6.5 per cent from 2013 to 2023. قطاع الفنادق المزدهر في الإمارات يرفع من حجم الطلب على منتجات النظافة العامة

• دبي تسجل رقماً قياسياً في أعداد الغرف الفندقية لتصل إلى  100,000 غرفة بحلول عام 2020
• أبوظبي تحقق زيادة بنسبة 20% في عدد نزلاء الفنادق في الربع الأول من العام الحالي

الإمارات، 30  سبتمبر 2015 – تشير الدراسات الحديثة إلى أن قطاع الفنادق الحيوي في دولة الإمارات الذي ينمو بوتيرة متسارعة سيشهد طفرة قوية بفضل الاستثمارات المتزايدة في مشاريع البنية التحتية في مجال الضيافة، بالإضافة إلى النمو في أعداد السياح الوافدين سنوياً. وتمتلك دبي، التي تعد المدينة الرائدة في مجال تشييد الفنادق في منطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال إفريقيا خلال السنوات الثلاثة الماضية، أعلى عدد من غرف فنادق الخمس نجوم والذي يقدر بحوالي 65,000 غرفة، أي بنسبة 45% من إجمالي الغرف الفندقية في المنطقة.  كما تشهد أبوظبي أيضاً نمواً قوياً في مجال تشييد الفنادق، حيث من المقرر أن تنتهي من تنفيذ 2300 غرفة فندقية خلال العام الجاري. وسجلت هيئة أبوظبي للسياحة والثقافة زيادة بلغت 20% في حجوزات الفنادق خلال الربع الأول من العام الحالي مقارنة بنفس الفترة من العام الماضي.

ومن المتوقع أن يتواصل هذا النمو الإيجابي في ظل إستعدادات دبي لاستضافة معرض "إكسبو الدولي 2020" والذي من المتوقع أن يستقطب حوالي 20 مليون زائر سنوياً ويشهد إفتتاح ,000100 غرفة فندقية جديدة خلال فترة إنعقاده. وفي المقابل، تعمل أبوظبي على الانتهاء من تنفيذ 5200 غرفة فندقية خلال عام 2017. وتعكس هذه المؤشرات المبشّرة مدى الازدهار الاقتصادي الذي تشهده الدولة ككل وعلى نحو يعزز من نمو القطاعات ذات الصلة ويعمل على تعزيز الطلب على منتجات النظافة العامة عالية الجودة لتلبية الاحتياجات الناشئة في قطاع الضيافة. ووفقاً لتقرير مؤسسة "آر. آي. أس. آي" (RISI) عن "آفاق المستقبل للأعمال التجارية العالمية في مجال المناديل الورقية في منطقة الشرق الأوسط"، أظهرت تجارة المناديل الورقية نمواً إيجابياً بنسبة 8.9% سنوياً منذ عام 1993، مدفوعة بالتطور الذي يشهده الاقتصاد والزيادة السكانية. ومن المقرر أن يستمر هذا النمو في ظل التوقعات التي تشير إلى التوسع في الطلب على منتجات المناديل الورقية في منطقة الخليج بمتوسط معدل سنوي يصل إلى 6.5% خلال الفترة من عام 2013 إلى عام 2023. ورسخت "ظفار العالمية"، إحدى الشركات الرائدة في مجال توريد منتجات النظافة والعناية الشخصية في منطقة الشرق الأوسط، من مكانتها كمزود مفضل لحلول الصحة العامة والحياة العصرية لدى العديد من العلامات الفندقية الرائدة. وتسعى الشركة إلى سد حاجة السوق من منتجات قطاع الضيافة في مختلف أنحاء الدولة.
