ScanSnap Receipt software available for free to owners of Fujitsu ScanSnap document scanners

Dubai, September 3, 2015 – Fujitsu has today announced that ScanSnap Receipt software will be available in the EMEA region (Europe, Middle East and Africa) free of charge for convenient receipt management. Supporting multiple languages and currencies, it converts information like the date of invoice, amount, and tax information from a paper receipt into useful digital data for household books, travel expenses and other personal business. ScanSnap Receipt will be available for both PC and Mac users across all current Fujitsu ScanSnap models in autumn 2015. Existing customers will receive ScanSnap Receipt as part of the automated ScanSnap software update as well as via a download link online. ScanSnap Receipt will make its EMEA debut at a special preview during the IFA trade show in Berlin, Germany, from September 4.-9.

ScanSnap Receipt is integrated in the Quick Menu of ScanSnap Manager software. It helps users to convert paper receipts into a digital format, to organise and extract information from receipts and to export data to file formats including CSV, PDF, and JPEG for efficient expense tracking and bookkeeping.

Using ScanSnap Sync is as easy as capturing paper documents with the ScanSnap scanners. Documents scanned using a mobile device via the ScanSnap Connect Application are automatically uploaded to a folder in the cloud service. Once the user is back in the office and launches the ScanSnap Organizer software on either Mac or PC, scans are synchronised with the cloud service and are available for applying ScanSnap Organizer functions such as OCR or paper rotation. The enhanced document file will automatically be synchronized again with the cloud-based directory so that documents are available across all devices.

CIOs in Egypt Need to Heed Five Signs Indicating it’s Time to Upgrade IT Network, says Expert from Brocade

CAIRO, Egypt, 4th September, 2015: How old is the equipment running the organization’s IT network? Older than 5 years? Do recurrent network outages occur? Is there a struggle with poor quality voice and video communications? Is it too costly to maintain the organization’s legacy equipment? Is there trouble scaling up the network to accommodate new business needs? If the answers to any of these questions is “Yes”, it may be time to upgrade the organization’s campus network, says Yarob Sakhnini, regional director, MEMA at Brocade. Yarob has put together a list of the five telltale signs that CIOs in Egypt need to pay attention to that indicate that it’s time to upgrade the campus network.

1.    Frequent equipment breakdowns causing network outages

As with all electronic equipment, as switches age they are more prone to failure. Power supplies and fans reach the end of their life span, old optical transceivers/links will increasingly fail and require more frequent maintenance. A switch or a link going down can result in network outage in older network architecture lacking redundancy.

2.    Performance can’t keep up with latest campus applications

The latest campus applications like web based video conferencing, Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI), IP based video surveillance, automated cloud based backup, to name a few often require more bandwidth and lower latency than most legacy networks were designed for, causing users to experience delays and poor application experience. Additionally, the latest network powered devices such as high performance wireless access points and Pan Tilt Zoom security cameras require more PoE power than legacy switches can deliver.

3.    High maintenance cost

Old network equipment is notoriously more expensive to maintain than the latest generations. Often vendors charge a percentage of the equipment list price as yearly service and support fees, since prices of new network switches have come down over the years so did service and support fees. Additionally, vendors tend to increase service and support fees for end-of-lived equipment to amortize the cost or maintaining old technology. Last but not least, many newer network switches include a lifetime warranty reducing the cost of support.

4.    High power bills

Over the years, customers have become increasingly concerns about energy consumption and cost. A few networking vendors have developed more energy efficient products and each generation of new network switches consumes significantly less power than the previous one. Additionally new technology and standards such as Energy Efficient Ethernet (EEE) has been developed to reduce the power consumption of idle ports.

5.    Too much time spent managing the network

Older legacy networks offer very limited support, if at all, for consolidated management and automation. Typically older switches are either standalone only or offer basic stackablity with limited stacking bandwidth and short stack height. This results in network administrators having to manage each switch individually, spending precious time replicating network policy changes manually across the network.

GSMA Urges Arab States to Maintain Flexibility in Support of Mobile Broadband Growth

Limited Spectrum Made Available for Mobile by Arab Spectrum Management Group Ahead of WRC-15

LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE/ME NewsWire)-- John Giusti, Deputy Chief Regulatory Officer, GSMA, commented on the outcome of the final meeting of the Arab Spectrum Management Group (ASMG) in Rabat, Morocco in preparation for this November’s World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC-15):

“The GSMA welcomes the overall outcome of the ASMG meeting to identify new spectrum for mobile in a number of bands. However, we are concerned that not enough new spectrum will be available to give national regulatory authorities the flexibility they need to fully meet long-term mobile data demand.

“Mobile has already made significant progress in closing the digital divide and bringing both communications services and internet access to previously underserved populations across the Arab States, particularly given the lack of fixed line infrastructure in most countries. However, despite the progress to date, there are several markets where less than 20 per cent of the population has internet access1. Securing additional spectrum for mobile at the WRC-15 conference will be crucial to support future mobile broadband growth across the Arab States, as well as enable the mobile industry to help meet governments’ ambitions to develop smart cities, driverless cars and connected energy management in the region.

“The GSMA is pleased with the ASMG’s decision to support a portion of the L-band (1452-1518MHz) for mobile broadband. This band has met with almost global support ahead of WRC-15, which will lead to significant cost benefits for consumers around the world through economies of scale.

“We further commend the ASMG’s support in making 3.4-3.6GHz available in the high capacity C-band for mobile use, giving Arab States citizens access to high-speed mobile broadband in dense urban areas. We will continue our discussions to increase the availability of harmonised spectrum in the 3.4-4.2GHz frequency range to further optimise the delivery of mobile services.

“However, we were disappointed with the ‘no change’ vote for the sub-700MHz UHF band (470-694MHz), which has characteristics suitable for expanding affordable mobile broadband connectivity to remote and underserved communities. Strong support from some Arab countries for a co-primary allocation for mobile and broadcast in the UHF band was underscored by findings of a GSMA study presented to the ASMG, which showed that terrestrial TV penetration has dropped below 20 per cent in the region and continues to fall2. We call on administrations to support a change in the radio regulations at WRC-15 that would give them flexibility to manage this important UHF spectrum resource efficiently and address local market demand.

“Looking ahead to this November, we hope that the WRC-15 process will create a framework that will enable the Arab administrations that want to move forward to secure the future of the mobile internet to do so. We urge all governments throughout the region to plan ahead now and ensure they have the flexibility to satisfy future mobile data demand, as well as achieve the substantial social and economic benefits that mobile broadband would deliver.”

Guests were welcomed with a delectable medley of beverages as they took in the restaurant’s urban interiors and breath-taking views of the Dubai Marina. The restaurant’s open kitchen provided the entertainment for the evening with diners witnessing the world-famous Chef at his best.

Chef Atherton and Chef Patron Tristin Farmer served up a creative selection of his Mediterranean inspired culinary creations, showcasing Marina Social’s tapas-style dishes. Highlights included goat’s cheese churros with truffle honey, the ‘Social Dog’ with duck & foie gras sausage, brioche and mustard mayonnaise, followed by wagyu beef sliders with veal bacon, chorizo and tomato chutney. The evening’s menu was topped off with sweet treats from the enticing dessert bar such as chocolate éclairs with salt caramel, and strawberry and white chocolate cheesecake.

Marina Social and The Social Room officially opened their doors to the public today; inviting the city’s foodies to experience Chef Atherton’s famed deformalized dining style under the leadership of Chef Patron Tristin Farmer and General Manager David Vindis.

Located within the urban understated luxury of the recently opened InterContinental Dubai Marina, the new restaurant and bar adds to the hotel’s cosmopolitan vibe.

Marina Social and The Social Room is open daily for drinks and dinner; from 6pm to 12am at Marina Social, and from 6pm to 2am at The Social Room. The first tables are available from Friday 4th September 2015 onwards.
