Axis Partners with Solink to Deliver Integrated Contextual Analytics.

Dubai, United Arab Emirates, January 20th 2015 - Axis Communications, the global leader in network video surveillance, and Solink, the first event-driven video discovery platform, are partnering to deliver a fully integrated contextual analytics solution.  This partnership allows Axis IP Cameras to work seamlessly with the Solink platform and its banking and retail applications.

Since inception, Axis has continued to innovate its broad range of IP video cameras and solutions.  Axis’ platform enables software companies, like Solink, to integrate value-added solutions natively.  The Axis Application Development Partner (ADP) program provides a mature ecosystem for developers to innovate, create and iterate solutions and applications.  This partnership will benefit Axis customers in banking and retail by providing continuous discovery and real-time alerting of operations, risk, and security events.

Solink’s web-based software helps businesses use video to make informed, timely and data-driven decisions.  By detecting an average of 10 events/camera every hour, the Solink platform can provide decisions makers with numerous data points to be searched or alerted on.  Events are specific markers that identify time & location-based interactions - such as in-store transactions, queue lines, motion events, alarm-panel notifications, product lift, wait or dwell times to name a few.  Using the contextual analytics engine, Solink can correlate these disparate data sources to identify unique insights captured on video.  Solink is able to interact with analytic events generated by Axis’ IP cameras and leverage the high-quality video stream required for analysis.  This partnership is a giant step towards taking video to the entire enterprise.

“Solink is a very welcome and important addition to the Axis Application Development Program. Their applications are especially important for us in the Middle East as they address a wide range of challenges faced by key stakeholders in the banking and retail sectors. The requirements of these sectors are rapidly evolving and highly demanding” says Marwan Khoury, Marketing Manager MEA.

“With the ever increasing desire for high resolution and high frame rate recording in the Middle East, Solink helps to ease the deployment and cost burdens on enterprise infrastructure with intelligent data and metadata searching processes across the entire company environment. This is an ideal compromise between the best quality video available and sustainable communications infrastructure costs, which is why a partnership between Axis Communications and Solink is so invaluable to banks and retailers in the region” says Matthew Terrey, Solink’s representative in the UAE.

Solink will be showcasing its video discovery solution at the Axis Communications stand (No: S1-G12) at INTERSEC from January 18th - January 20th.

Citymax Hotels enjoy surge in arrivals from India

January 2015: Citymax Hotels returned to its roots in 2014 with a focus on targeting the lucrative Indian travel market, cushioning the home-grown UAE budget hotel chain from the unexpected downturn in Russian guest arrivals later in the year.

Partnering with travel agents in India and participating with DTCM on Indian sales trips and road shows, Citymax Hotels has boosted its Indian guest arrivals to a staggering 25% of its total guest profile, an increase of 7% in 2014 over the previous years’ arrivals.

Hailing from cities around India, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Cochin and Ahmedabad as well as the traditional centres of Delhi, Bangalore and Chennai, Indian guests stay an average of 4 nights, according to Marketing Manager Rohit Challapalli.

“Our average stay is 2-3 nights, but our Indian guests stay longer than most, enjoying what Dubai has to offer with regards to shopping and more recently an interest in excursions and sightseeing.  Previously, most of our Indian guests were here to visit family and friends, now they do that as well as ‘playing tourist’ “continues Challapalli.

Traditionally they prefer hotels in Bur Dubai due to the close proximity to Meena Bazaar and family and friends living in Bur Dubai. However more recently we have seen the market shifting towards Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Barsha.  Sharjah is also a key market for Indian tourists, and Citymax Hotels Sharjah is a popular destination hotel.”

Although the Indian market is a year-round one, there is an increase in outbound travel to the UAE around Diwali, New Year, the Dubai Shopping Festivals and Summer Holidays.

Challipalli anticipates another year of increased arrivals from India, as well as the new feeder markets currently being developed by Citymax Hotels to ensure diversity in arriving guest profiles.

Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council Hosts Second Seychelles Strategic Plan Charette

‘What Does the Future Look Like?’
ABU DHABI, 19 January 2015: The second Charette began today in Victoria, the capital city of the Seychelles, for the development of the Seychelles Strategic Plan.  Stakeholders from Government agencies across the Seychelles attended the opening day which included a welcome address by Minister Christian Lionnet from the Ministry of Housing and Land Use.
Under the direction of the Abu Dhabi Leadership, the Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council (UPC) is providing technical assistance for the project, which began in May 2014.
The first Charrette, ‘Where Are We Now?’, resulted in a clear vision statement for the project and set out key principles and aspirations for the Seychelles through to 2040.  Stakeholders explored growth potentials and helped identify the opportunities for the future development of the Seychelles to ensure a balance of development and economic growth against protection of the natural environment and the distinctive character of the islands.
The Seychelles Strategic Plan will cover all of the islands that comprise the Seychelles, with a particular focus on the main island of Mahé. A framework plan will be developed for Mahé and a detailed Master Plan will be developed for Victoria. The Strategic Plan will provide a blueprint for urban development and sustainable growth of the Seychelles over the next 25 years.
The week-long workshop, titled ‘What Does the Future Look Like?’, will assess the issues arising from the three growth scenarios that have been developed.  A growth scenario takes into consideration elements including population, transport, development, tourism, community facilities, environment, agriculture and utilities.  This assessment will lead to a preferred growth scenario that stakeholders will collectively prepare throughout the week.
The growth scenarios prepared for Mahé represent possible futures and provide a conceptual framework by which to analyse the pros and cons of different spatial approaches to delivering growth.  A full assessment of these scenarios will take elements from each to create a preferred way forward.
Once agreed, the preferred growth scenario will provide clarity on the preferred locations for growth and the mix and proportion of land uses.   The principles underpinning the preferred growth strategy will then be translated into the Seychelles Strategic Plan and the Mahé Framework Plan.
To ensure that there is valuable input from the community’s not-for-profit organisations and the private sector, who will be instrumental to delivering the Plan, they have also been invited to participate in Charette 2.  This ensures cross-sectoral alignment on the Plan’s priorities to ensure effective delivery of the Plan at the implementation stage.
Amer Al Hammadi, Executive Manager for Planning and Infrastructure at the UPC, said: “The rigorous assessment and testing of the different growth scenarios, which includes consultation with the Seychelles stakeholders, is absolutely critical to the successful implementation of the Seychelles Strategic Plan.
“It forms part of a balanced approach which helps ensure that the future development of the Seychelles balances the need to achieve economic growth with the needs of the community.”
The next steps will see the key points of agreement and outputs fully assessed to ensure that the Plan targets the appropriate amount of development in the right location. The outputs of Charette 2 will feed directly into the Victoria Master Plan that will be the key topic for Charette 3.
As part of Phase 2 engagement, and immediately following the Charette, the Seychelles, with assistance from the UPC, will be undertaking community consultation through drop-in sessions throughout Mahé , LaDigue and Praslin.
The Plan will set out the urban development framework for the sustainable growth of the Seychelles over the next 25 years, and will address priorities for the nation such as; facilitating economic growth and diversification, protecting the environment by ensuring development is undertaken in appropriate locations and in a sustainable manner, appropriate allocation of land for residential and economic use, protecting the character and heritage of the Seychelles, and preserving and enhancing its social and cultural aspects, to ensure a high quality of life for all.
