International Coffee & Tea Festival 2014 to feature the WORLD’S CHAMPION BARISTAS in its first ever ‘All Stars’ event

For three consecutive days, four renowned baristas, brewers & latte artists will showcase their world-class skills to UAE’s eager coffee fraternity

The International Coffee & Tea Festival (ICTF), the only dedicated trade event for the coffee and tea industry in the Middle East, is bringing four of the world’s best baristas, brewers and a latte artist to the UAE to participate in the trade show’s first ever World Coffee Events’ ‘All Stars’ activity. During the show, which is taking place from November 12 to 14 at the Meydan Gallery, champions Hidenori Izaki, Stefanos Domatiotis, Christos Loukakis, and Gwilym Davies will display their expert coffee-making skills, demonstrate their in-demand performances, join insightful coffee talk show interviews and compete in exciting pop quiz contests.

These ‘All Stars’ will not only make their best coffee beverages in various entertaining head-to-head challenges, but they will also engage with the audience for autographs and photo opportunities. A few lucky fans will also be given a chance to team up with the award-winning baristas for a fun pop quiz challenge. Other interactive activities will include the ‘Mystery Espresso Challenge,’ the ‘Mystery Cappuccino Challenge,’ the ‘Coffee and Chocolate Pairing,’ and the ‘Mystery Ingredient Challenge,’ a contest between two ‘All-Stars’ who will attempt to create the best tasting signature beverages made special with mystery ingredients.

These four award-winning baristas are globally renowned for their distinct talents in coffee making, leading them to win numerous awards in various global competitions. Izaki bagged the top prize at the current 2014 World Barista Championship (WBC), while Davies was declared the 2009 World Barista Champion. Domatiotis who won the 2014 World Brewers Cup Championship also holds multiple other titles inclusive of 2012 WBC finalist, a seven-time WBC competitor, a two-time World Latte Art Championship (WLAC) finalist and a 2014 WBC champion. Lastly, Loukakis was a 2014 WBC finalist, a 2013 WBrC finalist, and a 2011 WLAC winner.

يستضيف "مهرجان القهوة والشاي العالمي 2014" (ICTF)، الحدث الوحيد المتخصّص بفن تحضير القهوة والشاي في الشرق الأوسط، أربعة من أفضل المتخصّصين في صناعة وتخمير القهوة وفن إعداد القهوة بالحليب حول العالم للمشاركة في النسخة الأولى من "سباق النجوم" ضمن فعاليات المهرجان المقرّر انعقاده في الفترة بين 12 إلى 14 نوفمبر/تشرين الثاني المقبل في "معرض ميدان" بدبي. وسيجتمع الأبطال الأربعة وهم هايدنوري إيزاكي وستيفانوس دوماتيوتيس وكريستوس لوكاكيس وغويليم ديفيس، تحت سقفٍ واحدٍ لاستعراض مهاراتهم المتميّزة في تحضير القهوة والمشاركة في العروض الحيّة وجلسات النقاش للوقوف على آخر الإبتكارات والتطورات في عالم صناعة القهوة، بالإضافة إلى المشاركة في عدد من المسابقات الشيقة والحماسية ضمن الحدث.

وتم إختيار هؤلاء الأبطال الأربعة الحائزين على جوائز عالمية، للمشاركة في "سباق النجوم" نظراً للمهارات الفريدة التي يتمتّعون بها في مجال تحضير القهوة والتي مكّنتهم من الفوز بالعديد من الجوائز المرموقة في مسابقات دولية عدّة، حيث حاز إيزاكي على الجائزة الكبرى في "بطولة العالم للباريستا 2014""، والتي كانت من نصيب ديفيس في عام 2009. أما ديماتيوتيس، الفائز ببطولة "كأس العالم لتخمير القهوة لعام 2014"، فهو يحظى بسجل حافل من الإنجازات والنجاحات الأخرى منها المشاركة لسبع مرّات في "بطولة الباريستا العالمية " والتأهّل إلى نهائيات البطولة في عام 2012، بالإضافة إلى التأهّل مرّتين إلى نهائيات "بطولة العالم لفن إعداد القهوة بالحليب" والفوز بلقب "بطولة العالم للباريستا 2014". وأخيراً، يعد لوكاكيس من أبرز مختصي القهوة حول العالم حيث نجح من خلال مهاراته الفرديّة في الوصول إلى نهائيات "بطولة العالم للباريستا عام 2014" و"بطولة العالم لتخمير القهوة 2013" والفوز بـ"بطولة العالم لفن إعداد القهوة بالحليب 2012".

The Ministry of Public Health sets the foundations for upcoming National Polio Immunization Campaign

September 09, 2014 - The Lebanese Paediatric Society (LPS) and the Ministry of Public Health held a national meeting to set the foundation of the National Polio Immunization Campaign that will be launched in October. The meeting was held, at the Lebanese Order of Physicians; with the collaboration of UNICEF, WHO, the Lebanese Society of Physicians, the National Certification Committee (NCC) and the Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI) committee and was attended by paediatricians and physicians from the private and public hospitals.

The meeting marks the start of the national drive to stop polio from regaining a foothold in Lebanon after its resurgence in the region. Lebanon has been free of the highly infectious disease for the last 11 years.

Since the beginning of 2014, four immunisation rounds have been held. These started in March, and include immunisation weeks in high-risk areas across Lebanon over the summer months.

“Children need the strong immunity delivered by the oral polio drops and they need multiple doses,” said Dr. Imad Chokr President of LPS. “Our message to families will be clear: every child must participate in every round to prevent lifelong paralysis and keep Lebanon polio-free. Even one unvaccinated child puts all other children in Lebanon at risk.”

To ensure that all children continue to be safe from polio two national immunization campaigns with the oral polio vaccine (OPV) are planned in October and November 2014 targeting all children under the age of five in Lebanon.

“Once again we come together with UNICEF and WHO to ensure Lebanon’s 11 years of polio free status is maintained.” said Randa Hamadeh, National EPI Manager. “We know that only multiple doses of oral polio vaccine can provide enough protection and we must make it a priority to ensure these vital vaccines reach all children in Lebanon.”

“This is an important moment for children’s health in Lebanon,” said Annamaria Laurini, UNICEF Representative in Lebanon on the occasion of this event. “Today we are urging every doctor to make sure children receive the polio vaccine during the campaign no matter what their immunization status. Any case of polio here would be an avoidable tragedy - for the family and for the country.”

Acting WHO representative in Lebanon, Dr. Gabrielle Reidner, noted: “The vigilance, dedication and hard work of the staff of the Ministry of Public Health have prevented re-introduction of polio viruses into Lebanon. We will spare no effort to keep Lebanon free of polio and together with our partners will make sure to have a successful campaign”.

 

وزارة الصحة العامة ترسي أسس

الحملة الوطنية الشاملة للتحصين ضد مرض شلل الأطفال

بيروت في 9 أيلول  2014 – عقدت الجمعية اللبنانية لطب الأطفال بالتعاون مع وزارة الصحة العامة اجتماعا يهدف الى إرساء أسس الحملة الوطنية للتحصين ضد شلل الأطفال التي سيتم إطلاقها في تشرين الأول المقبل. عقدت الجلسة في مقر نقابة الأطباء في لبنان بالتعاون مع منظمة الأمم المتحدة للطفولة (اليونيسف) ومنظمة الصحة العالمية وجمعية الأطباء في لبنان واللجنة الوطنية للاشهاد ضد شلل الأطفال واللجنة المشرفة على برنامج التحصين الموسّع وشارك فيها حشد من أطباء الأطفال والأطباء العامون من المستشفيات الخاصة والعامة.

ويعتبر هذا اللقاء انطلاقة المبادرة الوطنية الهادفة إلى الحؤول دون انتشار مرض شلل الأطفال في لبنان بعد عودته إلى منطقة الشرق الأوسط، ولا يزال لبنان خالياً من الإصابات بهذا المرض الشديد العدوى طوال السنوات الحادية عشرة الماضية. وقد تم تنظيم أربع جولات تلقيح منذ أوائل العام 2014 استهلت أولها في شهر آذار الماضي، وشملت أسابيع تلقيح في المناطق المعرّضة للخطر على كافة مساحة الأراضي اللبنانية طوال أشهر الصيف.

وحول الموضوع، قال الرئيس المنتخب للجمعية اللبنانية لطب الأطفال الدكتور برنار جرباقة: "يحتاج الأطفال للتحصين الفعّال من خلال تناول جرعات متعددة من اللقاح الفموي ضد شلل الأطفال على شكل قطرات"، مضيفاً: "رسالتنا للعائلات وطاقم الرعاية الصحية واضحة: يجب على كلّ طفل المشاركة في كلّ جولة تلقيح ليتحصّن ضد خطر الإصابة بالشلل مدى الحياة، ولحماية لبنان من شلل الأطفال على الدوام. فكلّ طفل غير ملقح يعرّض سائر الأطفال في لبنان لخطر الإصابة بشلل الأطفال. وبالتالي، نحن نحتاج لحشد جهود كافة الجهات المعنية، أي جميعنا، لحماية الأطفال في لبنان".

وحرصاً على الاستمرار في حماية كافة الأطفال من خطر الإصابة بهذا المرض، ستنطلق جولتا تلقيح ضد شلل الأطفال خلال شهري أكتوبر ونوفمبر في جميع المناطق اللبنانية بهدف تطعيم كافة الأطفال دون الخامسة من العمر عن طريق اللقاح الفموي.

من جهتها، قالت مديرة برنامج التحصين الموسع في وزارة الصحة العامة السيدة رنده حمادة: "نضم اليوم جهودنا إلى جهود يونيسف ومنظمة الصحة العالمية مرة أخرى في سبيل إبقاء لبنان بعيداً عن شلل الأطفال كما كان طوال السنوات الحادية عشرة الماضية. لأننا على أتم العلم أن وحدها الجرعات المتعددة من لقاح شلل الأطفال يمكنها أن تؤمن الحماية الكافية، يجب علينا أن نضع نصب أعيننا أولوية وصول هذه اللقاحات إلى جميع الأطفال في لبنان".

أما ممثلة اليونسيف في لبنان السيدة آنا ماريا لوريني فناشدت الجميع قائلة: "أنها لحظة حاسمة لصحة الأطفال في لبنان. ونحن اليوم نناشد كل طبيب إلى التحقّق من تناول كل طفل لقاح شلل الأطفال خلال هذه الحملة، بغض النظر عن حصولهم على اللقاح في حملة سابقة. فأي حالة إصابة بشلل الأطفال تشكل كارثة على مستوى العائلة أولاً والبلد بصورة عامة".

كما لفتت الممثلة المؤقتة لمنظمة الصحة العالمية في لبنان السيدة غابرييل ريدنر إلى: "إن الاحتراز والعمل الدؤوب والمتابعة المستمرة من قبل موظفي وزارة الصحة العامة قد آلت دون عودة شلل الأطفال إلى لبنان. ولن نتوانى عن بذل أي جهود في سبيل الإبقاء على خلو لبنان من شلل الأطفال وسنحرص كل الحرص وشركائنا على إنجاح  هذه الحملة". 

Prime Minister Ibrahim Mehleb Confirmed to Speak at Euromoney Egypt

Harry Sverdlove, the company’s Chief Technology Officer, will explain the need for foolproof and reliable information security strategies to protect systems from potential dangers of data leaks and online intrusions. Such measures are crucial amidst alarming reports of growing digital attacks against individuals and enterprises in the GCC region.

The congress comes at a time when cybercrimes are on the rise and traditional security measures such as antivirus software are no longer sufficient to fight off threats. Information technology (IT) experts have warned that the GCC is one of the prime targets of cybercriminals today, estimating that the average cost of data breaches is USD 5.4 million. In the UAE, a 2012 study shows that 1.5 million people were victimized by cybercriminals, resulting in direct financial losses of USD 422 million. Experts are seeing no letup in online attacks and digital hacking as a large number of people in the region are now becoming more dependent on smartphone and internet services.

“We cannot allow ourselves to be vulnerable to today’s online threats,” Sverdlove said. “The frequency of cyber attacks such as hacking is only going to get worse as cybercriminals are now getting more sophisticated. This fact should serve as a wake-up call for us to do our level best to protect ourselves from online breaches. Nowadays, traditional prevention tools alone are not enough. We have to be more proactive by ensuring that our security systems are strong enough to ward off any possible threat. We have to make sure that robust measures are in place that can effectively detect breaches and respond to them swiftly before any irreparable damage or leak takes place.”

It is also important, Sverdlove added, for cyber security practitioners to be armed with the necessary skills and knowledge in order to effectively and immediately respond to digital attacks.

The UAE is one of the GCC states that have already taken a strong stance on digital breaches. H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, established the National Electronic Security Authority (NESA) through Decree No. 3 of 2012 to oversee the country's cyberspace. Furthermore, the government is also encouraging its nationals to actively participate and get involved in cyber security as part of its intensified initiatives to prevent online attacks.

The holding of the 6^th e-Crime and Information Security Congress is aligned with the government’s campaign to reinforce digital security. The event is the region’s largest gathering of information risk and security professionals who are tasked with safeguarding digital assets, protecting sensitive data and coordinating security and risk strategy. تناقش "بت9 + كاربون بلاك" (Bit9 + Carbon Black)، الشركة الرائدة في الحد من تهديدات نقاط الاتصال والكشف عنها ومعالجتها، موضوع الخروقات الأمنية الإلكترونية والحماية من التهديدات المتقدمة وذلك خلال "مؤتمر الجريمة الإلكترونية وأمن المعلومات" (e-Crime & Information Security Congress)، الذي يعقد في 10 سبتمبر/أيلول الجاري في فندق سانت ريجيس أبوظبي في جزيرة السعديات. وسيقدم هاري سفيردلوف، مدير قسم التكنولوجيا في الشركة، عرضاً يشرح فيه الحاجة إلى استراتيجيات مضمونة وموثوقة لأمن المعلومات بهدف حماية النظم من المخاطر المحتملة لتسرب المعلومات والخروقات عبر الإنترنت. وتعتبر مثل هذه التدابير هامة في ظل التقارير التي تشير إلى تنامي الهجمات الرقمية ضد الأفراد والمؤسسات في منطقة دول مجلس التعاون الخليجي.

ويأتي إنعقاد هذا المؤتمر في الوقت الذي ترتفع فيه معدلات الجرائم الإلكترونية ولم تعد فيه تدابير الحماية التقليدية كافية لمواجهة هذه التهديدات. وحذر خبراء تكنولوجيا المعلومات من أن منطقة دول مجلس التعاون الخليجي تعد من بين الأهداف الرئيسية لمجرمي الإنترنت اليوم، حيث يصل متوسط تكلفة خروقات البيانات إلى 5.4 مليون دولار. وفي دولة الإمارات، أظهرت دراسة أجريت في العام 2012 أن 1.5 مليون شخص كانوا ضحية مجرمي الإنترنت، الأمر الذي أدى إلى خسائر مالية مباشرة قدرت بنحو 422 مليون دولار. ولا يرى الخبراء تراجعاً في حدة الهجمات عبر الإنترنت والقرصنة الرقمية في ظل اعتماد عدد كبير من الناس في المنطقة حالياً على الهواتف الذكية وخدمات الإنترنت.

وقال سفيردلوف: "لا يمكن أن نسمح بأن نكون عرضة للتهديدات عبر الإنترنت وخاصة مع تزايد وتيرة الهجمات الإلكترونية مثل القرصنة، فضلاً عن أن مجرمي الإنترنت باتوا أكثر تطوراً الآن. وينبغي أن تكون هذه الحقيقة بمثابة دعوة للتنبه والقيام بأفضل ما لدينا من أجل حماية أنفسنا من الخروقات عبر الإنترنت. وتعتبر أدوات الحماية التقليدية في الوقت الحالي غير كافية، وبالتالي علينا أن نكون أكثر حرصاً من خلال ضمان أن تكون نظم الحماية لدينا قوية بما يكفي لدرء أي تهديدات محتملة. كما ينبغي أن نتأكد من تطبيق تدابير قوية يمكنها الكشف عن الخروقات بشكل فعال والتعامل معها بسرعة قبل حدوث أي ضرر لا يمكن إصلاحه أو أي تسرب للبيانات".

ويضيف سفيردلوف أنه من المهم أيضاً لمختصي الأمن الإلكتروني أن يمتلكوا المهارات والمعرفة الضرورية من أجل التعامل الفوري والفعال مع الهجمات الرقمية.

تعد دولة الإمارات واحدة من دول مجلس التعاون الخليجي التي اتخذت موقفاً قوياً فيما يتعلق بالخروقات الرقمية، حيث أسس صاحب السمو الشيخ خليفة بن زايد آل نهيان، رئيس الدولة وحاكم أبوظبي، الهيئة الوطنية للأمن الإلكتروني بموجب المرسوم رقم 3 للعام 2012 وذلك للإشراف على الفضاء الإلكتروني في الدولة. وعلاوة على ذلك، تشجع الحكومة مواطنيها على المشاركة بفعالية والإنخراط في مجال الأمن الإلكتروني وذلك في إطار مبادراتها المكثفة للحد من الهجمات عبر الإنترنت.
