Dubai Humanitarian facilitates new air bridge to deliver critical WHO medical supplies to Gaza

Four flights carry essential medicines, tents and fortified biscuits to support humanitarian efforts in Gaza

Approximately 150 metric tonnes of WHO medical and health supplies to be dispatched in the coming weeks

Shipments form part of a continuous logistics pipeline supporting the urgent health needs of people in Gaza

Government of Dubai Media Office – 14 August 2026: Under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Dubai Humanitarian (DXBH) has facilitated the dispatch of critical humanitarian relief supplies to Gaza.

The shipments are part of a new air bridge launched this week, in support of the World Health Organization’s (WHO) efforts to deliver urgently needed medical aid to the people of Gaza. The first flight departed two days ago from the Dubai Air Wing, carrying 11 metric tonnes of essential medicines aboard a C-130 aircraft bound for Al Arish International Airport in Egypt. The cargo will subsequently be transported to Gaza. Three additional flights followed, carrying further consignments of medicines, tents and fortified biscuits to help address nutritional needs on the ground.

The four flights are carried out under a wider operation through which Dubai Humanitarian will facilitate the dispatch of approximately 150 metric tonnes of WHO medical and health supplies to Gaza in the coming weeks. Further flights are planned as part of a continuous logistics pipeline.

All supplies are drawn from stocks pre-positioned at the WHO Global Logistics Centre hosted by Dubai Humanitarian, highlighting the organisation’s critical role in enabling rapid, large-scale humanitarian operations.

His Excellency Mohammed Ibrahim Al Shaibani, Chairman of Dubai Humanitarian, said: “This latest air bridge builds on Dubai Humanitarian’s longstanding efforts to aid humanitarian operations in Gaza, guided by the directives of the UAE and Dubai’s leadership to stand by the people of Gaza.

“Despite the challenges facing the region, Dubai Humanitarian, with the continued commitment of its partners, has facilitated several air bridges and relief shipments this year to countries including Afghanistan, Mozambique, Lebanon and Uganda, supporting the efforts of international organisations.

Al Shaibani added: “Earlier this year, we also facilitated the overland delivery of essential medical supplies to Gaza on behalf of WHO through a three-truck convoy, reflecting our flexible, multimodal approach to humanitarian logistics.”

Robert Blanchard, Head of Emergency Operations at the WHO Hub for Global Health Emergencies Logistics, said: “Through its Hub for Global Health Emergencies Logistics, the World Health Organization is rapidly delivering more than $1.3 million worth of medicines and medical supplies to treat approximately 400,000 people in Gaza. Delivered through a series of charter flights, the shipments include medical supplies for several partners.

“Made possible through the generosity and operational assistance of Dubai Humanitarian and the Government of Dubai, these emergency charter flights enable WHO to deliver more medicines, reach more patients and reduce costs.”

Blanchard added: “As the humanitarian community responds to growing emergency needs amid declining financial resources, Dubai Humanitarian’s assistance comes at a critical time. Since the start of the conflict, its charter flights have saved Gaza’s health emergency operations more than $4 million in logistics costs. Flights such as those arriving this week enable WHO to direct its limited resources towards expanding access to life-saving medicines and medical supplies for patients requiring urgent humanitarian assistance in Gaza and around the world.

Botim and Mastercard launch region’s first all-in-one card with Mastercard One Credential

The solution combines multi-currency, prepaid, credit, and installment payments, reflecting consumer demand for card installments.

Dubai, UAE - August 10, 2026 - Botim, the UAE's leading fintech platform, has collaborated with Mastercard to launch the Mastercard One Credential, giving eligible Botim cardholders greater flexibility and control over how they access and manage payments through a single card solution. This launch also marks the first rollout of the solution in the UAE and across Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EEMEA), strengthening the companies' committment to product innovation.

Mastercard One Credential links one payment product to multiple funding sources through a seamless digital interface. Eligible users can switch between prepaid balances and credit funding, giving them more ways to pay without needing a separate card.

The launch responds to consumer demand for flexible payments. According to Mastercard’s global consumer research, 83% of UAE consumers surveyed said they would use card installments through One Credential. The research also highlighted the appeal of bringing multiple payment options together in one capability, giving consumers greater convenience, and control over everyday spending.

For first-time credit users, the solution offers a simpler entry point by embedding credit access into an existing card experience. Botim cardholders can also access funds across multiple currencies and convert any purchase into simple, flexible installments, increasing purchasing power while providing clearer visibility over card transactions and financial management.

“At Botim, we believe financial services should improve how people access and manage everyday financial lives,” said H.E. Dr. Tariq BinHendi, Board Member at Astra Tech and CEO of Botim. “Our work with Mastercard reflects a shared commitment to fostering greater choice, transparency, and confidence in digital payments. By bringing this capability to Botim cardholders, we are providing a more practical and trusted way to pay, while continuing to build a platform that can support long-term financial participation and create sustainable value.

“Consumers increasingly expect payment experiences that are secure, simple, and embedded in their everyday digital lives”, said Gina Petersen-Skyrme, senior vice president and country manager, UAE and Oman at Mastercard. “By combining Mastercard's One Credential technology with Botim's digital platform, we are simplifying how cardholders access and manage different payment methods through one scalable solution. Equally important, One Credential also demonstrates how solutions can be implemented quickly and efficiently in markets, supporting our partners’ efforts in launching new solutions.”

This new prepaid and installment proposition marks the first milestone in the collaboration’s broader roadmap. It lays out the groundwork for future Botim card propositions and additional payment use cases designed to broaden the ways customers can pay.

YOUNG SOUTH AFRICANS NAME WINNIE MANDELA AFRICA’S GREATEST FEMALE LIBERATION FIGHTER

PRESS RELEASE

Previously unreleased African Youth Survey findings, published on the 70th anniversary of the historic Women’s March, reveal overwhelming recognition of Winnie Madikizela-Mandela’s sacrifice, defiance and place in South Africa’s liberation story

  • 51% of young South Africans name Winnie Madikizela-Mandela as Africa’s greatest female liberation fighter, more than eight times the level recorded for her nearest South African rival.
  • In a separate ranking of those who sacrificed most for the anti-apartheid movement, Winnie is the highest-ranked woman on 36%, behind Nelson Mandela on 61% and just one point behind Steve Biko on 37%.
  • 89% call Winnie one of the greatest icons of the anti-apartheid movement, while 81% say she sacrificed the most of all leaders in the liberation struggle.
  • The findings follow the success of the Netflix Top 10 documentary The Trials of Winnie Mandela. Executive Producer Ivor Ichikowitz is available for interview.

9 August 2026, Johannesburg: Seventy years after 20,000 women marched on the Union Buildings and shook the foundations of apartheid, a new generation of South Africans has delivered a powerful verdict on the woman it regards as the defining female figure of the liberation struggle.

Exclusive findings from the Africa Youth Survey research programme show that 51% of young South Africans named Winnie Madikizela-Mandela as Africa’s greatest female liberation fighter. Her nearest South African rivals were Albertina Sisulu on 6% and Helen Joseph on 5%, giving Mama Winnie a lead of more than eight to one over any other woman named.

In a separate question asking respondents to select up to three people who sacrificed the most for the anti-apartheid movement, 36% chose Winnie Mandela. She was the highest-ranked woman, just one percentage point behind Steve Biko on 37% and behind Nelson Mandela on 61%. The findings identify Nelson Mandela as the leading male liberation figure and Winnie Mandela as the leading woman in the minds of young South Africans.

Ivor Ichikowitz, Founder and Commissioner of the African Youth Survey and Executive Producer of The Trials of Winnie Mandela, is available for broadcast, print, podcast and online interviews to discuss the findings, the documentary and Winnie Mandela’s legacy among younger South Africans.

Ivor Ichikowitz said:

“This is a verdict from the generation born after apartheid, and it is impossible to dismiss. Young South Africans see Winnie Mandela as a central protagonist in the liberation story, a woman who carried the struggle in public while paying an extraordinary private price. Their judgement is not uncritical, but it is clear: history diminished her contribution and they are now demanding a fuller account of who fought, who suffered and who was allowed to define the national memory.”

A generation reassessing Winnie

The research reveals the depth of young South Africans’ identification with Winnie Mandela’s role and the price she paid. Some 89% agree that she was one of the greatest icons of the anti-apartheid movement, including 58% who strongly agree.

A further 81% agree that she sacrificed the most of all the leaders in the liberation struggle. Some 84% describe her as a fallen hero prepared to sacrifice laws and lives in pursuit of revolution and redress, while 76% say she was a product of apartheid whose actions and legacy must be judged within that context.

Ichikowitz added: “What matters is that this generation is examining the evidence for itself. It is not asking for a sanitised heroine. It is asking for an honest history which recognises the scale of Winnie Mandela’s sacrifice, the brutality of the system she confronted and the complexity of the choices that struggle imposed.”

Netflix success fuels a national conversation

The findings are released less than four months after the premiere of The Trials of Winnie Mandela, the Ichikowitz Family Foundation-backed seven-part documentary series that launched on Netflix on 23 April 2026. Executive produced by Ivor Ichikowitz after a 12-year journey to bring Winnie Mandela’s story to the screen, the series was a fixture of Netflix South Africa’s Top 10 after its launch and became the focus of extensive national debate across television, radio, newspapers and social media.

Framed through the journey of Winnie Mandela’s granddaughters and drawing on her own testimony, the series presents a complex account of a freedom fighter, political leader, mother and grandmother whose legacy has often been reduced to either reverence or condemnation. Its success demonstrated the scale of public interest in revisiting her life, particularly among younger South Africans encountering the fuller story for the first time.

Ichikowitz added: “The response to the documentary has been extraordinary because it opened a conversation South Africa had postponed for too long. These findings show that the conversation began before the cameras rolled. A generation that did not live through apartheid is reaching conclusions that challenge the simpler version of history it inherited.”

Women’s Day: reverence for the past, alarm about the present

The findings are published on South Africa’s National Women’s Day, marking the 70th anniversary of the 9 August 1956 Women’s March. More than 20,000 women marched to the Union Buildings against the extension of pass laws, creating one of the defining moments in the country’s liberation history.

The survey shows that respect for the women of the liberation struggle sits alongside intense concern about the position and safety of women today. Some 95% of young South Africans surveyed are concerned about gender-based violence and femicide, including 81% who are very concerned.

A further 93% are concerned that women’s rights are not adequately protected, including 79% who are very concerned. Some 82% agree that Africa still does not have enough female leaders and role models, including 57% who strongly agree.

The Africa Youth Survey 2026

The new data is being released as the Ichikowitz Family Foundation builds on the July launch of the Africa Youth Survey 2026. Commissioned by the Foundation and conducted by PSB Insights, the latest edition interviewed 4,901 young Africans aged 18 to 24 across 16 countries in March 2026, making it the largest edition of the recurring survey to date.

Launched in 2020, the Africa Youth Survey gives governments, business, civil society and the media a rigorous understanding of the views of Africa’s rising generation. Since its inception, the programme has covered 28 countries through more than 18,000 face-to-face interviews, creating one of the continent’s most substantial recurring bodies of youth opinion.

The first part of the 2026 report released last month examines young Africans’ views on democracy, leadership, employment, security, international partnerships and the future. It finds a generation strongly committed to democratic principles but expects political systems and international partners to deliver practical improvements in jobs, services, stability and opportunity.

Mohamed Alabbar, founder of Emaar, said: "Our first half results reflect the discipline, consistency, and long-term approach that define Emaar. Dubai never stands still, and neither do we. Every phase of the city's growth creates new opportunities to raise expectations and redefine experiences. Emaar's role is to continue building destinations that reflect Dubai's ambition while maintaining the quality, innovation, and operational excellence that have shaped our business from the beginning."

He added: "We remain grateful for the vision of our leadership and forward-looking approach to economic development, which has fostered a stable, transparent, and business-friendly environment. This confidence in leadership continues to attract capital and talent even amid a more uncertain global backdrop. This stability remains a fundamental enabler of Emaar's long-term growth."

UAE Build-To-Sell Property Development

Emaar's UAE build-to-sell property development business, led by Emaar Development PJSC (DFM: EMAARDEV), demonstrated strategic resilience and disciplined capital allocation during the first half of 2026.
