77% of Workers Trust an Autonomous AI Future. Humans Are Critical to Getting There

Paula_Goldman

UAE, 16 July 2024 - Today’s workers already trust AI to do almost half of their work tasks, according to new Salesforce research. While workers feel most comfortable when AI and humans work together, they are also beginning to trust AI to complete time-saving tasks autonomously, like writing code, uncovering data insights, and drafting written communications.

Workers aren’t delegating everything to AI just yet. The research shows that today’s workers prefer tasks like onboarding, training, and keeping data safe to be overseen by humans. But this likely won’t last for long. The data also suggests that investing in knowledge and education builds trust in an autonomous AI future.

Why it matters: As technology advances, people are getting a glimpse into a future in which AI can operate entirely on its own. The Salesforce research, which surveyed nearly 6,000 people around the world, revealed that workers are excited about an AI-powered future. Workers also stressed the importance of a human touch as they build trust, knowledge, and experience with AI tools.

The research found:

Global workers, especially leaders, believe in an autonomous future and are already offloading tasks to AI

Leaders trust AI to do more of their work than employees do — leaders trust AI to do 51% of their work, while rank-and-file workers trust AI to do 40%.

  • Workers today already trust AI to do roughly 43% of their work tasks, indicating a shift among workers to offload tasks to AI.
  • 77% of global workers will eventually trust AI to operate autonomously. This number includes:
  • 10% of global workers who trust AI to operate autonomously today.
  • 26% of global workers who will trust AI to operate autonomously in less than three years.
  • 41% of global workers who will trust AI to operate autonomously in three or more years.

While workers prefer AI-human collaboration, they’re starting to trust AI to handle certain tasks alone

  • Today, 54% of global workers trust humans and AI to do most work tasks together.
  • When asked if these workers trusted AI to do any of these same tasks autonomously, the answer, for a small group, was some. Tasks they felt comfortable with offloading to autonomous AI included:
  • Writing code: 15% trust AI to write code autonomously.
  • Uncovering data insights: 13% trust AI to uncover data insights on its own.
  • Develop communications: 12% trust AI to develop internal and external communications without a human.
  • Act as a personal assistant: 12% trust autonomous AI to act as their personal assistant.

  • Other tasks, according to respondents, require having a human involved right now. Global workers are most likely to trust humans alone to do the following:
    • Be inclusive: 47% trust humans alone to be inclusive.
    • Onboard and train: 46% trust humans alone to onboard and train employees.
    • Keep data safe: 40% trust humans alone to keep data safe.

Human involvement and enablement can pave the way to an autonomous AI future

  • Human involvement is needed to build trust in AI.
    • 63% of global workers say more human involvement would build their trust in AI.
  • Concerns about AI may come from a lack of understanding. Fifty-four percent of global workers say they do not know how AI is implemented or governed in their workplace.
    • Workers who are knowledgeable about how AI is implemented and governed in their workplace are 5x more likely to say they will trust AI to operate autonomously within the next two years than those who are not knowledgeable.
  • Training may be another key to trusted autonomy:
    • 62% of workers say more skill-building and training opportunities would build their trust in AI.

Salesforce perspective: “Workers are excited about an AI-powered future and the research shows us that human engagement can help us get there. By empowering humans at the helm of today’s AI systems, we can build trust and drive adoption – enabling workers to unlock all that AI has to offer.” – Paula Goldman, Chief Ethical and Humane Use Officer

Go Deeper:

Methodology: Salesforce conducted a double-anonymous survey in partnership with YouGov from March 20 to April 3, 2024. It included nearly 6,000 full-time knowledge workers representing companies of a variety of sizes and sectors in nine countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, France, Germany, India, Singapore, and Switzerland. The survey took place online.

Republic of Moldova designated to lead the Global Medical Tourism Council

The Republic of Moldova, represented by the Medical Tourism Association, has been elected to hold the Presidency of the Global Medical Tourism Council (GHTC) for the next two years, 2024 - 2026. This prestigious position, decided at the GHTC General Assembly, signifies Moldova's growing influence in the global medical tourism industry. Competing against Germany and Saudi Arabia, Moldova secured the majority of votes from over 50 participating countries, reflecting its emerging prominence in this sector.

"Our overarching commitment is to pursue expansion, innovation, and accessibility. We want to create a global medical tourism system that is fair and sustainable. It’s also important to promote new medical technologies and treatments, and to support medical research," said Natalia Ciobanu, president of the Medical Tourism Association of Moldova.

"The position is an important step in promoting medical tourism in the Republic of Moldova, but also in increasing the country's visibility at the international level. Our country has a huge potential in the field of medical tourism - which must also be an engine of the economic development of the Republic of Moldova", emphasised Andrei Revenco, the executive director of the Medical Tourism Association of Moldova.

Over the next two years, the association will focus on enhancing the range of medical services available in the country. Key areas of development include orthopaedic surgery, ophthalmology, and balneotherapy. Moldova boasts a rich tradition in balneotherapy, yet significant investments are needed to meet European standards.

Moldova's journey in medical tourism began in 2009. By 2018, the sector had grown significantly, with medical tourists constituting over 35% of the total number of patients in Moldovan clinics. The most frequent visitors come from Romania, Russia, Ukraine, Turkey, Bulgaria, and Israel. The primary attractions are the high-quality, cost-effective medical treatments, favourable climate, and affordable accommodation.

Statistical Overview:

- Romanian Tourists: 19.3%

- Russian Tourists: 9.8%

- Ukrainian Tourists: 8.0%

- Polish Tourists: 5.7%

- Turkish Tourists: 2.0%

- Bulgarian Tourists: 1.4%

- Israeli Tourists: 1.2%

Moldova offers a variety of medical tourism options, including diagnostic and wellness services. The country adheres to international medical standards, ensuring accurate diagnostics and effective treatments. Notable fields attracting international patients include:

- Stomatology: High demand for dental services due to affordability and quality. Over 70% of dental patients in Moldova are foreigners, mainly from Italy, France, America, and Russia. Services include dental rehabilitation, prosthesis, caries treatment, and teeth whitening.

Hepatitis C Treatment: Moldova's expertise and availability of generic medications make it a prime destination for Hepatitis C treatment. By 2018, over 4,000 patients received free Hepatitis C treatment in Moldova.

Ophthalmology: Advanced diagnostic and treatment options attract patients seeking high-quality eye care. There are more than 20 clinics in Moldova offering a wide range of ophthalmic services.

Plastic Surgery: Cost-effective procedures with high success rates. Popular surgeries include breast surgery and facelifts, which are significantly less expensive in Moldova compared to Europe.

Family Planning: Renowned for fertility treatments like in vitro fertilisation (IVF). Moldovan doctors have contributed to the birth of over 2,000 children, with a national success rate exceeding 40%.

Moldova's medical tourism infrastructure includes over 300 clinics and private medical centres in Chisinau alone. These facilities offer a wide range of services, from dental care to complex surgeries. Medical tourists receive the same level of care as local patients, often at significantly lower costs than in Western countries.

Dental tourism is particularly popular in Moldova. Dental clinics are equipped with modern facilities and staffed by highly qualified specialists, offering treatments at a fraction of the cost compared to Europe or the USA. The positive aspects of dental tourism in Moldova include:

- A wide range of dental services

- The ability to perform complex procedures in a short time

- Affordable prices for high-quality treatments

- Modern equipment and quality materials

- Experienced dentists

Patients can also enjoy a tourist package that includes transport, translator services, and accommodation, allowing them to explore the beautiful city of Chișinău while receiving top-notch dental care.

Moldova's election to the presidency of the GHTC marks a significant milestone in its medical tourism journey. This achievement underscores Moldova's commitment to transforming itself into a premier destination for medical tourists. The Medical Tourism Association's focus on innovation, expansion, and adherence to international standards will undoubtedly enhance Moldova's global reputation.

The strategic emphasis on high-demand medical services, coupled with Moldova's ability to offer affordable yet high-quality treatments, positions the country as a formidable player in the global medical tourism market. The ongoing investments in medical infrastructure and the diverse range of medical services available ensure that Moldova will continue to attract and serve medical tourists from around the world, promising a bright future for the nation's medical tourism industry.

Medical Tourism Association of Moldova is the leading organisation dedicated to promoting Moldova as a premier destination for medical tourism. Established to connect international patients with the country's top healthcare providers, the Association fosters excellence in medical services and patient care. Our mission is to elevate Moldova's reputation in the global medical tourism market by showcasing its high-quality healthcare facilities, advanced medical technologies, and skilled professionals.

Xpro India Limited to Set Up its 1st Global Manufacturing Unit in Ras Al Khaimah with an Investment of Over AED 100 Million

Ras Al Khaimah, United Arab Emirates

Xpro India Limited, part of the Birla conglomerate and a producer of dielectric films used in capacitors, is establishing its first global manufacturing unit called Xpro Dielectric Films in Ras Al Khaimah. From being the first mover in dielectric film manufacture in India, this is a momentous step in the company’s strategy to expand its global footprint.

The greenfield project underway in Al Ghail Free Zone, Ras Al Khaimah Economic Zone (RAKEZ), represents an approximate initial investment of over AED 100 million and is expected to begin operations in the second quarter of 2025. The facility will produce 4,500 tons of dielectric films annually using state-of-the-art machinery. The investment will account for around 33% of the total capacity under Xpro’s umbrella, and create around 80 new jobs in the emirate.

Xpro’s Indian manufacturing facilities already meet about one-third of the domestic demand in India, and also export to western markets. The new facility will supply to markets in the USA, Europe, and the Far East, demonstrating Ras Al Khaimah and UAE’s robust international connectivity.

Xpro India Limited Chairman Sidharth Birla said “Our choice of Ras Al Khaimah for this expansion was significantly persuaded by its welcoming and forward-looking business climate, proximity to efficient transport hubs, and advanced infrastructure. We are optimistic about the long-term vision of our national leaders for multiplying economic and multi-faceted engagements between India and the UAE. The vision of His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi for Ras Al Khaimah is pragmatic and dynamic, and based on a multi-faceted approach to economic diversification, sustainable development, and improving the quality of life for its people. It is extremely appealing. The UAE’s Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) and its extensive network of Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) are additional factors, allowing a unique opportunity to tap into new markets and expand our presence and market reach more effectively. We believe we have made an appropriate, informed choice for Ras Al Khaimah to shape our aspirations for a global position and recognition.”

Xpro India Limited Managing Director, and Xpro Dielectric Films Director, C. Bhaskar added, “Our choice of Ras Al Khaimah also took into account positive feedback from existing companies in the emirate and our first-hand assessments. The ever-present support from the RAKEZ team from day one, and their quick responses and deep insight into business needs, has been vital in ensuring our smooth set-up.”

RAKEZ Group CEO Ramy Jallad said, “We, at RAKEZ, are delighted to welcome Xpro Dielectric Films to our thriving industrial community. The company’s decision to establish its manufacturing unit in Ras Al Khaimah highlights the strategic advantages our emirate offers global manufacturers. We are dedicated to providing a supportive business environment and comprehensive services that empower the success and growth of all our clients. We look forward to seeing the positive contributions Xpro will make to our dynamic business ecosystem.”
