Turnitin Expands Capabilities Amid Rising Threats Posed by AI Bypassers

New detection feature helps educators detect potential AI misuse

Dubai, United Arab Emirates. – August 28, 2025 – Turnitin, a leading provider of technology solutions in academic integrity, announced that its existing AI writing detection capabilities now include AI bypasser detection*, designed to help educators detect text that may have been intentionally modified by AI humanizer tools. These latest updates further ensure that Turnitin keeps pace with the evolving LLM landscape.

The past two years has seen a rise in AI bypasser tools, or “humanizers,” which allow students to disguise AI-generated text as human-written, evading detection by both teachers and AI tools. The easy availability of these tools poses a growing threat to academic integrity, shifting students’ focus from merely using AI to actively concealing it, making it harder for educators to verify the originality of submitted work and negatively impacting a student's learning experience.

The new bypasser detection capability is integrated seamlessly with Turnitin's overall AI writing detection capabilities. When AI writing detection is enabled, educators can automatically check submissions for likely AI-generated content as well as content that may have been further modified by leading bypassers without the need for additional integrations or outside tools that could pose data or security risks. Turnitin’s AI bypasser detection enables educators to uphold academic integrity detecting AI-generated content even if it's been modified by bypassers, with the sole aim of evading detection.

"While cheating has always been a concern of educators, with the rise of AI, there has been a new category formed of cheating providers. These companies exist to profit from students' misuse of AI by providing free and easy access to humanizers to conceal AI-generated content," said Annie Chechitelli, chief product officer, Turnitin. "In service of our ongoing commitment to AI writing transparency, we’ve updated our software to detect leading AI bypasser modifications so educators can uphold academic integrity against this emerging challenge."

AI presents exciting potential to enhance education, but its misuse, particularly through the emergence of AI bypassers, presents real challenges to learning and academic integrity. These bypassers undermine the educational process by working against genuine learning, eroding trust between educators and students, and diminishing the educator’s ability to confidently ensure students understand the course material.

Turnitin’s AI bypasser detection is now available as part of Turnitin’s AI writing detection capabilities within the Turnitin Originality** add-on & AI capabilities add-on for iThenticate 2.0 customers

This launch follows the recent introduction of Turnitin Clarity and a rearchitected Turnitin Feedback Studio (TFS) demonstrating Turnitin’s commitment to innovation and delivering a comprehensive solution to help educators and administrators.

* The AI bypasser feature has been trained and tested to support interactions in English only.

** AI writing detection is available when licensing Turnitin Originality.

Emirati women’s empowerment: Steadfast approach rooted in national vision

By H.E. Judge Dr. Ebtisam Ali Al Bedwawi

Director General, Dubai Judicial Institute

Emirati women have firmly established themselves as vital players in the UAE’s ambitious development journey, making their mark across all sectors, including the judiciary. Each year, Emirati Women’s Day shines a spotlight on this remarkable progress, serving as both a celebration of accomplishments and a renewed call to action. At the center of this movement is Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Mother of the Nation, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation.

This year’s theme, ‘Hand in Hand, We Celebrate 50 Years,’ reflects Her Highness’s enduring dedication to placing women’s empowerment at the heart of national priorities. Her Highness has consistently championed the vital role of women in nation-building and has called for expanding their presence in all vital sectors by empowering them to lead and shape the future.

Under the leadership of H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, the General Women’s Union has played an instrumental role in expanding the influence of Emirati women across diverse fields. The Union has spearheaded national strategies to increase women’s participation in development, launched training programs to cultivate leadership and innovation skills among women, and promoted active political engagement.

These strategic efforts have translated into a stronger presence of Emirati women in high-level government and judicial roles, as well as broader empowerment in the economic sphere through support for entrepreneurship and small businesses.

As a result of these efforts, Emirati women today stand as a model of excellence, holding key positions, assuming vital responsibilities, participating in decision-making processes, and excelling in critical sectors such as space, the military, police, diplomacy, and the judiciary.

Emirati Women’s Day is a true reflection of the UAE’s visionary leadership, illuminating the path for future generations. It serves as a testament that the country’s continued growth and prosperity are built on the equal contributions of both women and men. On this day, women are not simply celebrated as ‘half of society,’ but recognised as the very foundation of its progress.

Reflecting on the role of Emirati women in the judiciary, I take deep pride in having been appointed as the first female judge in the Dubai courts under a decree issued by H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. This marked a pivotal chapter in my career, as I took the judicial oath before His Highness, an experience that will remain a lasting memory.

Since then, my journey has continued to be shaped by trust and responsibility. Today, I am proud to serve as the Director General of the Dubai Judicial Institute, appointed by H.H. Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, First Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Finance, and Chairman of the Dubai Judicial Council. To be the first woman to hold this position is both an honour and a call to ensure that more women can walk the same path.

At the Dubai Judicial Institute (DJI), we are committed to reflecting and achieving our wise leadership’s vision of women empowerment. We actively work to increase female participation in DJI’s training programs, engage women judges as trainers across diverse programs in recognition of their extensive practical expertise and remarkable training skills, and attract talented women into our administrative teams. Emirati women have consistently demonstrated their capability in leading institutional work with professionalism and dedication.

The journey of Emirati women in the judicial field represents a shift from participation to leadership. Since my appointment as the first female judge, and with women now holding senior leadership roles within judicial institutions, Emirati women have proven that success is built on two fundamental pillars - unwavering will and determination - supported by a strong institutional framework and the guidance of our wise leadership.

Today, as we commemorate Emirati Women’s Day, we see the tangible results of this empowerment across every sector and discipline, shaping a bright future. Emirati women are no longer just participants but are pioneers and role models, carrying the values of authenticity and the spirit of innovation. At the Dubai Judicial Institute, we continue to draw inspiration from their achievements as we continue women's empowerment, which remains a cornerstone for building a brighter and more inclusive future for our nation.

Millennials Are Quietly Leading the AI Revolution — and They Can Boost Adoption Rates Among Colleagues

Jenny Simmons - Salesforce

UAE, 28 August 2025 - Millennials have embraced AI more fully than any other generation, according to a new survey by Slack, a Salesforce company.

Driving the news:

  • One in three workers between the ages of 28 and 43 use generative AI tools daily, and one in four (25%) employ them multiple times per week, the study found.
  • This cohort is also more likely to understand and trust AI agents, according to the research, and millennial workers lead all their peers in using the technology to increase productivity, automate repetitive tasks, and take on more strategic responsibilities.

Of course: Gen Z is not far behind in any of these categories — and far ahead of their oldest colleagues in using AI on the job. But companies have yet to fully benefit from their new hires’ AI experience.

  • “Gen Z is using AI a lot for educational and personal projects,” said Lucas Puente, Vice President of Research for Slack. “But when it comes to the workforce, they haven’t established the same level of comfort.”

Go deeper: That’s where millennials can be a company’s biggest training asset. These more seasoned, AI-savvy employees can help newer hires get up to speed.

For example: A key thing millennials can teach their newest coworkers is good judgment, said Jenny Simmons, Vice President and Global Head of Enterprise Learning at Salesforce. Gen Z must learn how to set boundaries around ‌technology, when they can trust what the AI is telling them, and when to be skeptical. That usually requires deep expertise in subject areas that newer hires have yet to acquire.

  • “Team members need to understand which tools they should be using, where they’re allowed to put sensitive data into the system and where they shouldn’t,” she said. “The cohort that’s been in the office for a while will know the types of outputs the company is looking for and how to check that against what things like AI agents are doing.”

Learning curve: Learning how to collaborate with both human colleagues and the emerging agentic workforce is another area where newer workers could use guidance. Developing relationships that reach across different areas of the business will be crucial to both their careers and the success of the company, said Gemma Quinn, Salesforce’s Vice President of Global University Recruiting.

  • “When you come out of university and into a large company, one of the first things you need to learn is why networking is so important,” she said. “When people sign on for their first full-time jobs at Salesforce, we set up networking events for them to meet with people who work in different groups across the company. And it just evolves from there.”

On that note: Having built their careers during periods of rapid technological advancement, millennials can also help assure newly hired Gen Z workers that AI is not going to take away their opportunities to grow and learn on the job.

  • “AI will not eliminate entry-level jobs, but it will cause these jobs to evolve,” said Quinn. “But newly hired employees will be able to do a lot more than they could even a few years ago because of this technology.”

SLC organises workshop on “Consistency and Coherence between Federal and Local Legislation”

To foster a culture of collaboration and to ensure legislative integration and proper implementation

August 28, 2025 - The General Secretariat of the Supreme Legislation Committee in the Emirate of Dubai (SLC) organised a workshop titled “Consistency and Coherence between Federal and Local Legislation,” aimed at legal professionals across government entities. The initiative reflects the SLC’s ongoing commitment to strengthening legislative cooperation, preventing legal conflicts, and enhancing legal awareness within public sector institutions.

Delivered by Dr. Faisal Hassan Al-Omari, Legal Advisor at the SLC, the workshop was attended by several legal experts and specialists. As part of SLC’s continued efforts to enhance legislative coordination, the session aimed to support the effective implementation of legislation, achieve legal certainty, prevent duplication in legislation, and foster greater awareness among lawmakers while enhancing collaboration between federal and local authorities.

The workshop explored several key topics, including an introduction to the federal system and distribution of legislative competencies; the concept and importance of legislative coherence; and strategies for achieving alignment between federal and local legislation. It also addressed potential contradictions between the two legislative levels. Participants discussed the challenges to legislative harmony and the implications of inconsistency on the rule of law and the administration of justice. Additionally, the workshop reviewed the benefits of legislative consistency and the critical role of the judiciary in upholding it.

H.E. Ahmed Saeed bin Meshar Al Muhairi, SLC Secretary General, emphasised the importance of coordination between legislative bodies to ensure coherence and avoid conflicts that could undermine the quality of government services or obscure rights and obligations. “Harmonising legislative frameworks is fundamental to upholding justice and the rule of law. This workshop is part of a series of awareness initiatives launched by the SLC to enhance legislative culture and legal knowledge. Aligning legislation is a key enabler of sustainable development and a cornerstone of effective governance,” he said.

Dr. Faisal Hassan Al-Omari noted that achieving legislative coherence requires institutional collaboration at both the federal and local levels, facilitating a better understanding of legal frameworks and unifying implementation mechanisms. “Legislative integration is vital for developing a proactive and flexible legislative system that supports all aspects of the legislative process,” he said.

He went on to review mechanisms of integrating local and federal legislation, citing real-world examples of conflicts between them.

The workshop concluded with a series of recommendations aimed at embedding a culture of collaborative legislative practice, enhancing alignment at all levels of legislation, and addressing barriers to legislative integration.

Valmet to increase resource efficiency through digitalization at Klingele Weener mill in Germany

Valmet Oyj’s trade press release, August 28, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. EEST

Valmet has received an order from Klingele Paper & Packaging for an automation solution to increase resource efficiency through digitalization at the Weener paper mill in Germany. The order comprises an integrated solution that combines three new automation products with the customer’s existing automation environment to reduce surface starch use and energy consumption.

The order was included in Valmet’s orders received of the second quarter 2025. Its value will not be disclosed.

“We are committed to improving our environmental performance continuously. Taking this new step in digitalization will help us on that journey. The primary goal of this project is to significantly reduce the usage of surface starch. This will also lead to decreased water usage and consequently less steam is required for drying,” says Johannes Reiners, Operations Manager, Klingele Paper Weener.

“Three automation solutions will be integrated into the customer’s current automation systems supplied by Valmet. The total solution will create an optimization loop which continuously collects and analyzes data to refine key process variables,” says Martin Grundmann, Senior Sales Manager, Automation Solutions, Valmet.
