Cairo, Egypt - 16 July 2024 – Benha Electronics Company and Thales have established a joint venture to bolster the manufacturing of critical communication solutions within the country.
This partnership is expected to enhance the local production of tactical radiocommunication systems. Through this joint-venture, tactical radio communications, tactical networks, satellite communications and information systems, such as Thales’s comprehensive range of Computerized Command, Control and Communications will be manufactured and integrated in Egypt. Moreover, the joint venture will support the creation of local jobs and careers in country.
The joint venture has been established within the framework of the Ministry of Military Production’s keenness to implement the directives of the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt to nationalize industries by leveraging the technical and technological capabilities of manufacturing companies to meet in-country needs.
Thales, leading global company in high technology, invests close to €4 billion a year in Research & Development, particularly in areas such as AI, cybersecurity, quantum technologies, cloud technologies and 6G. The Group has been present and operating in Egypt since 1973, and has contributed to significant projects in the country.
Thales has been working closely with Benha Electronics for nearly 25 years on tactical radiocommunications projects. Through the effective transfer of know-how, nearly 10,000 operational radios have been assembled at and delivered by the Benha Electronics Factory.
Foundations of the framework of constructive cooperation with Thales were established at EDEX 2023, when both companies signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU).
Christophe Salomon, Executive Vice-President, Thales Secure Communications & Information Systems, said at the launch, “we have been working closely with Benha Electronics for many years, and the establishment of this joint venture marks an important milestone for us at Thales. I am confident that this joint venture will actively contribute to making strides in developing homegrown technologies, fostering innovation, and strengthening self-reliance in critical sectors."
The Minister of Military Production explained that this partnership comes within the framework of the Ministry’s keenness to nationalize modern manufacturing technologies, within its subsidiaries, in cooperation with international companies. He stressed that the Ministry’s primary mission is to meet the needs and demands of the country as well as to contribute to the implementation of the different national and development projects that take place in Egypt, and aim to serve citizens and achieve added value to the national economy. He pointed out the keenness of the Ministry to implement the directives of President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, to integrate with the local and international private sector, in different fields of manufacturing, in line with the general direction of the State and to achieve its policy aimed at developing and adapting the available manufacturing, technical and technological capabilities to support sustainable development strategies by relying on local manufacturing capabilities, with Egyptian hands and the highest international quality standards.
