UAE, December 03, 2013 - The impressive Jamia Mosque Sultania and Education
Centre in the mill town of Brierfield, Lancashire, United Kingdom, is now
complete following a ten year design and build project and an investment of GBP
3.5 million from the local Muslim community. The new building, by architect Mr.
Al-Samairre of Archi-Structure, Baildon, West Yorkshire, is now one of the
largest mosques in Lancashire serving up to 2000 worshippers. The interior
decoration honours the past by using many traditional materials while also
embracing modern methods of construction and advanced, high-performance materials
such as DuPont™ Corian® high-tech surface.
The new facility is dedicated to both education and
worship and features eight classrooms on the lower ground floor. The spacious
main prayer hall offers a ladies prayer area on a mezzanine level for which a
special design solution was needed to elegantly separate and yet connect the
two areas. Designer Umar Faruque of Studio Architekton, who specializes in
contemporary Islamic interiors, was called in to create this feature and came
up with the concept of thirty-eight decorative arches inspired by the Moorish
architecture of Andalusia. The arches were designed to complement the marble
sourced from Pakistan and Turkey that features in the main hall, but for this
project the designer wanted a flexible modern material that would work in
harmony with the aesthetic while also being easy to fabricate and fit. The
apertures of the arches are fitted with one-way mirrored glass.
Umar Faruque was familiar with the properties of DuPont™
Corian® and the creative way in which these have been applied to various
projects around the world, and he was keen to explore the material’s
flexibility and flawless finish for this design. Umar chose local specialists M
and L Solid Surfaces for the onsite design, fabrication and installation of the
arches because, having worked with them previously, he was aware of their
background in engineering and their ability to achieve the precise tolerances
required for this project.
The arches were constructed from an MDF base and the two colours
of Corian® specified for the design (the deep, rich tone of Cocoa Brown and the
veined mineral aesthetic of Arrow Root colour), were a 90% match to the colours
of the marble in the main prayer hall. Working with technical support from CD
(UK) Ltd, distributors of DuPont™ Corian® in the UK, M and L Solid Surfaces company
completed the manufacture and installation of the arches within 12 weeks, using
30 sheets of the material.
Thermoforming and the seamless bonding of the two chosen
colours to ensure a sleek, uniform finish throughout. The arch design is now a
stand-out feature that has become one of the most distinctive and admired
within the building.
Khalid Hussain, on behalf of the new mosque comments, “The

but ingenious idea to us; we are pleased with how beautiful it looks, it has
become one of the main talking points about the design.”

unaware that a material famous for worktops could be so adaptable and creative,
and our faith in the architect and contractor has been rewarded with a quality
product and design, which has been completed to a very high standard.

"دوبونت كوريان" في تصميم أقواس على الطراز المغربي لمسجد جديد في
لانكشاير

"دوبونت" (DuPont)، عن اكتمال العمل في المركز التعليمي ومسجد
سلطانية جاميا في المنطقة الصناعية في بريرفيلد في مقاطعة لانكشاير البريطانية،
وذلك بعد مرحلة تصميم وبناء للمشروع استمرت عشر سنوات واستثمار 3.5 مليون جنيه
استرليني من قبل الجالية المسلمة في المدينة. ويعد المبنى الجديد، وهو من تصميم
المعماري السيد السماير من شركة "آركي ستركتشر" (Archi-Structure) ومقرها بلدة بيلدون
في ويست يوركشاير، واحداً من أكبر المساجد في مقاطعة لانكشاير، حيث يتسع لألفي
مصل. وتطغى على التصميم الداخلي لمسة من الماضي مع استخدام العديد من المواد
التقليدية، في حين تم أيضاً استخدام الأساليب الحديثة في البناء والمواد المتطورة
عالية الأداء مثل أسطح "دوبونت كوريان" (DuPont Corian) عالية التقنية.
ويعتبر المبنى الجديد مخصص للتعليم والعبادة وهو يحتوي على ثمانية قاعات
دراسية في الطابق الأرضي السفلي. وتوفر قاعة الصلاة الرئيسية الفسيحة منطقة للصلاة
مخصصة للنساء في طابق الميزانين والتي كانت بحاجة إلى تصميم خاص ليتم فصلها بشكل
أنيق مع ربط المنطقتين في الوقت ذاته. وتمت الإستعانة بالمصمم عمر فاروق من شركة
"ستوديو آركيتيكتون" (Studio Architekton)، المتخصص في التصميم
الداخلي الإسلامي المعاصر، لتنفيذ هذا العمل، حيث قام بتصميم 38 قوساً مزخرفاً
مستوحاة من الطراز المغربي للأندلس. وتم تصميم هذه الأقواس بحيث تستكمل الرخام المستورد
من باكستان وتركيا والذي يزين القاعة الرئيسية، لكن في هذا المشروع أراد المصمم
استخدام مادة عصرية مرنة يمكن أن تنسجم مع جمالية المشروع وأن يتم تصنيعها
وتركيبها بسهولة. وتم تزويد فتحات الأقواس بمرايا ملونة من جانب واحد.
وكان عمر فاروق على معرفة بالمشاريع
العقارية التي تم فيها استخدام مادة "دوبونت كوريان" والطريقة الإبداعية
التي يتم فيها استخدام هذه المادة في مختلف المشاريع حول العالم، كما حرص على
استكشاف مرونة هذه المادة والتشطيب النهائي الخالي من العيوب لهذا التصميم. واختار
عمر فاروق الشركة المحلية المتخصصة "أم أند أل سوليد سورفيسز" (M
and L Solid Surfaces) لتنفيذ التصميم في الموقع وصناعة وتركيب الأقواس بناءً على تجاربه
السابقة معهم، وإمكاناتهم في مجال الهندسة وقدرتهم على تحقيق درجة التفاوت الدقيقة
المقبولة المطلوبة لهذا المشروع.
وتم تشييد الأقواس على قاعدة من مادة "أم. دي" أف" (MDF) واعتماد لونين
الكوريان المحددين لهذا التصميم (البني الغامق Cocoa Brown، ذو الدرجة العميقة و
الغنية واللون المعدني المعرقArrow
Root )، حيث وصل معدل التناسب إلى 90% مع ألوان الرخام في قاعة الصلاة الرئيسية.
وأكملت شركة "أم أند أل سوليد سيرفسز" عملية تصنيع وتركيب الأقواس في
غضون 12 أسبوعاً مستخدمةً 30 لوحاً من هذه المادة وذلك مع الإستعانة بالدعم الفني
المقدم من شركة "سي. دي يو كي ليمتد" (CD
UK Ltd)، موزع مادة "دوبونت كوريان" في المملكة المتحدة.
كما تم استخدام تقنيات متميزة لصناعة المنحنيات المعقدة في هذه الأقواس بما
يشمل التشكيل بالحرارة والدمج السلس للونين المختارين لضمان نتيجة نهائية أنيقة
وموحدة. وأصبح تصميم هذه الأقواس الآن ميزة بارزة تشكل واحدة من أكثر العناصر
الجمالية تميزاً داخل هذا المسجد.
وقال خالد حسين نيابة عن القائمين على المسجد: "يشكل بناء مسجد
السلطانية مشروعاً ضخماً للجالية المسلمة والمشاركين في عملية البناء، والكل هنا
سعداء بالنتيجة النهائية ويقدرون تماماً هذا المبنى الفريد بميزاته الفنية العديدة
التي تكمل بعضها البعض. وكان استخدام مادة "دوبونت كوريان" فكرة جديدة
لكنها عبقرية، ونحن سعداء بمنظرها الجميل، حيث أصبحت واحدة من النقاط الرئيسية في
التصميم".
من جانبه، قال مسعود أحمد من مسجد بريرفيلد: "لم نكن نعلم بأن مادة
مخصصة للأسطح يمكن أن تكون قابلة للتكيف إلى هذه الدرجة مع استخدامات أخرى، وإن
اقتناعنا بالمهندس المعماري والمقاول قد كوفئ بمنتج وتصميم ذو جودة عالية تم
إنجازه على مستوى عال جداً".
