“I wear Pink for my Mother” becomes an annual event
Beirut, 25 April 2012: Under the patronage and presence of HE Minister Leila El-Solh Hamade, The Lebanese Breast Cancer Foundation celebrated mother’s day for the second year in a row during a brunch held at Movenpick Hotel in Beirut. The event was held in collaboration with the Breast of Excellence of Naef Basile Cancer Institute at the American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC) and was attended by socialites and supporters of the association and members of the press. The “I wear Pink for My Mother” event, aims at celebrating women’s health every year on Mother’s day, by raising awareness on the means to prevent breast cancer, detect it at an early stage, and cure patients.
Professor Nagi El Saghir welcomed women and their daughters and preferred to call “Mothers’ Day” as “Mothers’ Health Day”. Prof Saghir said that there are about 1700 new breast cancer cases each year among Lebanese women. He said with awareness campaigns the number of advanced cases has decreased and doctors are now curing more than 90% of early stage cases. Women should no longer be afraid of cancer but they should not “sleep on it and let it grow in their body” but go tell their doctor about any changes they notice in their breasts. “Early detection saves lives and saves breasts”. Prof Saghir told mothers on their day that “Lebanon would even be better if the women and mothers took charge of its government”.
HE Mrs Solh-Hamade commended the efforts of the Lebanese Breast Cancer Foundation and its president Dr. Nagi Saghir to promote health awareness on Mothers’ Day and improvement of early detection and prevention. She said that from her personal experience with her late husband, she knows all the difficulties patients go through and how much medical and psychological support they need to overcome the disease. She appreciates and highly supports their efforts to help patients physically and psychologically.
During the ceremony, Prof Saghir projected a lecture on breast health awareness and He advised mothers breast cancer prevention through a healthy lifestyle by avoiding weight gain, opting for a low-calories diet, eating less animal fat and more fruits, vegetables and fiber rich grains.
The event was attended by Mrs Ruba Bilal Hamad, Mrs. Manal Hassan el-Solh, Mrs. Anne Franjieh President of Association Faire Face, Mrs. Rima Dandashi, President of May Jallad Foundation, a large numbers of mothers and their daughters, and many mothers breast cancer survivors. Members of the foundation distributed on the attendance the foundation’s book: “Knowledge is the Path to Recovery”. During the brunch, raffle tickets were sold as part of a fundraising to support breast cancer patients at the American University of Beirut Medical Center.

الجمعية اللبنانية لمكافحة سرطان الثدي في لبنان
تحتفل بصحة المرأة يوم عيد الأم
بيروت، في 25 نيسان 2012: برعاية معالي الوزيرة السيدة ليلى الصلح حمادة وحضورها، أقامت الجمعية اللبنانية لمكافحة سرطان الثدي Lebanese Breast Cancer Foundation (LBCF) للسنة الثانية على التوالي "صبحية" بمناسبة عيد الأم في أوتيل الموفنبيك في بيروت بالتعاون مع مركز علاج الثدي بمعهد نايف باسيل للسرطان في المركز الطبي للجامعة الأميريكية في بيروت (AUBMC). حضر المناسبة حشد من سيدات المجتمع اللواتي يدعمن هذه القضية إضافة إلى بعض الوجوه الإعلامية. يهدف هذا اللقاء السنوي تحت شعار "أرتدي اللون الزهري من أجل صحة أمي" إلى الإحتفال بصحة المرأة في يوم عيد الأم من خلال نشر التوعية حول أهمية الوقاية من سرطان الثدي وتسليط الضوء على ضرورة الكشف المبكر عنه.
رحب البروفيسور ناجي الصغير بالسيدات اللواتي حضرن اللقاء برفقة بناتهن مقترحاً تسمية "عيد الأمهات" بعيد صحّة المرأة، مشدّداً على اكتشاف حوالى 1700 حالة إصابة جديدة كل عام بين النساء اللبنانيات. وقال: "بفضل حملات التوعية حول أهمية الكشف المبكر، انخفض عدد الحالات المتقدمة مما أتاح للأطباء إمكانية شفاء أكثر من 90٪ من الحالات المبكّرة". وناشد الصغير السيدات والأمهات استبدال الخوف من الإصابة بالكشف المبكر عنها وبالتالي تفادي "تجاهل الحالة في حين تنمو الأورام داخل الجسم من دون علمهن". كما شجعهن على مراجعة الطبيب في حال ملاحظة اختلاف في الثديين مشدداً على شعار "الكشف المبكر ينقذ الحياة والثديين أيضاً". ووجه البروفيسور دعاء للأمهات في يومهن قائلاً: " سيكون لبنان وطناً أفضل إذا أصبح تحت حكم النساء العادلات الحكيمات، بدل الرجال!".
من ناحيتها، أثنت معالي الوزيرة السيدة ليلى الصلح حمادة، على الجهود التي تبذلها الجمعية اللبنانية لمكافحة سرطان الثدي وعلى رأسها الدكتور ناجي الصغير في سبيل تعزيز الوعي الصحي في يوم عيد الأمهات لتحسين معدلات الكشف المبكر عن هذا المرض الخبيث والوقاية منه. وأضافت انها من خبرتها مع المرض الخبيث، فهي تقف بجانب المرضى وعائلاتهم لانهم يحتاجون الى الدعم الطبي والنفسي لمكافحة السرطان. وأعربت الوزيرة الصلح عن تقديرها ودعمها لجهود الجمعية من أجل مساعدة المرضى اجتماعيا ونفسياً.
وعرض البروفيسور ناجي الصغير خلال الحفل محاضرة تثقيفية حول صحّة الثدي. ونصح الأمّهات بضرورة الوقاية من سرطان الثدي من خلال اعتماد أسلوب حياة صحي يتجنب زيادة الوزن، واتباع نظام غذائي منخفض السعرات الحرارية، وتناول كميات أقل من الدهون الحيوانية والإكثار من تناول الفواكه والخضروات والحبوب الغنية بالألياف.
ومن الحضور أيضا السيدة ربى عقيلة الدكتور بلال حمد رئيس بلدية بيروت، السيدة ريما دندشي رئيسة مؤسسة مي جلاد، السيدة آن فرنجية رئيسة جمعية ”Faire Face”، السيدة منال عقيلة الدكتور حسّان الصلح مدير معهد باسيل للسرطان في الجامعة الاميركية، إضافة إلى حشد من الأمهات وبناتهن، والعديد من الناجيات من سرطان الثدي. هذا ووزع أعضاء الجمعية على المشاركات في الحفل كتاب الجمعية تحت عنوان "المعرفة طريق الشفاء" وتخلل الحفل بيع بطاقات تمبولا للسحب على جوائز يعود ريعها لدعم مرضى سرطان الثدي في المركز الطبي للجامعة الأميريكية في بيروت.
