Dubai, 12 June 2026: The recently-concluded Dubai Esports & Games Festival (DEF) showed why it’s one of the region’s leading events in the gaming industry with GameExpo providing a space for females to showcase their skills, participate in tournaments and engage with the wider community.

Thousands attended the festival’s flagship three-day GameExpo - the ultimate gaming playground, with the sector continuing to grow rapidly in the Middle East as DEF continued to promote inclusivity and diversity.

Among the opportunities was the Valorant Championship where a group of Emirati females took to the main stage to compete in the popular game between University of Wollongong and HCT College’s esports team, where they were cheered on by a passionate packed crowd.

Also in attendance at the event was Maryam Maher, better known online as Mary or Mary Gaming. She has enjoyed an illustrious career so far with her key accomplishments winning the Valorant Champions in 2022 with her team - G2 Gozen. At that time, the 20-year-old became the first GCC-based female gamer to sign with an international team.

She believes the gaming industry is going from strength to strength and events such as DEF bodes well for the future growth and is confident more women can follow in her footsteps.

She said: “Esports is one of the biggest industries and it’s great to see professional female gamers competing and doing something that they love. Today, the industry continues to grow from strength to strength, and I believe it's more accessible than many traditional sports. It is really easy for females to start their interest in gaming, and develop their skills over time. The important factors are dedication and commitment as these can help them work their way up and reach the highest level in gaming and esports.”

She added: “I first started playing games when I was eight-years-old. Back then, there were not as many opportunities as before as there are today and has grown so much.

“There were not as many events. However, seeing events like GameExpo being held is really good as it helps people connect, make new friends and explore more about gaming. Esports is one of the biggest industries and opportunities like these events will help raise more awareness, attract new audiences and tournaments being held – which bodes for the future.”

The Dubai Esports & Games Festival (DEF) 2026 was presented by du, with the support of key partners including Amazon, Dubai Culture, Jetour UAE, part of Elite Group Holding, and talabat. Together, these leading organisations are helping power one of the region’s largest celebrations of gaming, esports, and digital entertainment.

 UAE to host next UN Tourism Executive Council meeting, reaffirming support for global tourism sustainability and innovation

H.E. Bin Touq highlights the country’s advanced, integrated tourism development model underpinned by partnership, openness, and diversity

Abu Dhabi, 12 June 2026 – The UAE delegation, led by H.E. Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy and Tourism, participated in the 126th session of the UN Tourism Executive Council in Toledo, Spain. The country reaffirmed its steadfast commitment to supporting international efforts aimed at developing a more sustainable, resilient, and innovative global tourism sector, raising its contribution to economic growth, sustainable development, and community prosperity.

During the session, the UAE was selected to host the upcoming UN Tourism Executive Council meeting in the second half of this year. The session also addressed several strategic files related to the future of the global tourism sector, including the implementation of the Organization's program of work, digital transformation, artificial intelligence (AI), climate action, tourism investments and statistics. Discussions also covered preparations for the International Year of Sustainable and Resilient Tourism 2027, alongside the Organization's vision for 2026-2029.

H.E. Bin Touq affirmed that the global tourism sector is at a pivotal stage requiring enhanced international cooperation and integrated efforts between governments, international organizations, and the private sector. He also noted that this approach ensures the development of a tourism ecosystem capable of adapting to global shifts and leveraging opportunities presented by technology and innovation.

H.E. further highlighted that the UAE, under the guidance of its wise leadership, has established an advanced and integrated tourism model based on partnership, sustainability, innovation, economic openness, and tourism diversity. This has positioned the country as a leading, highly competitive global tourism destination, bolstering the sector's contribution to the national economy and cementing the UAE's status as a global hub for tourism, business, and investment.

Furthermore, H.E. Bin Touq stated that the UAE Tourism Strategy 2031 serves as a national roadmap to drive the sector's growth in the coming years. It aims to elevate the sector's contribution to the GDP to AED 450 billion, attract AED 100 billion in new tourism investments, and increase the number of hotel guests to 40 million annually, underpinning the country's economic diversification goals and enhancing national economic competitiveness.

H.E. added: “The UAE continues to implement pioneering national initiatives to support these objectives. These include the National Tourism Charter, the development of the national Tourism Satellite Account, and the implementation of the Measuring the Sustainability of Tourism (MST) framework. Additional efforts encompass the ‘UAE Grand Tours’ project, leveraging AI and data analytics to enhance tourism services, visitor experiences, and destination management, and supporting innovation, investment, and national talent development.”

Moreover, the UAE reaffirmed its support for UN Tourism’s vision to drive global tourism development in the upcoming phase under the leadership of H.E. Shaikha Nasser Al Nowais, Secretary-General of the Organization. This vision focuses on enhancing the Organization's efficiency, expanding its developmental impact, supporting innovation and digital transformation, spearheading tourism investments, and advancing tourism statistics and data to deliver greater value to member states.

Reflecting growing international confidence in the UAE’s tourism sector, the UN Tourism Executive Council approved the UAE as the host for its upcoming 127th session in the second half of 2026.

The Minister of Economy and Tourism emphasized that this decision underscores the strong partnership between the UAE and UN Tourism, reinforcing their shared commitment to promoting tourism as a catalyst for economic and social development, cultural and knowledge exchange, and international cooperation.

He added: "The selection reflects the UAE's advanced position on the global tourism map and its success in building a robust tourism ecosystem that integrates sustainability, innovation, competitiveness, and international partnerships."

Hosting the upcoming Executive Council session presents a key opportunity to strengthen international dialogue on the future of global tourism. It will highlight best practices and successful experiences in tourism investment, digital transformation, sustainability, innovation, and capacity building.

The meeting will provide a comprehensive global platform bringing together decision-makers and tourism leaders to discuss future challenges and opportunities. This aligns with the UAE's vision for tourism development and supports the Organization's strategic goals by fostering international cooperation to formulate policies and initiatives that drive sector growth and sustainability.

The UAE concluded its participation by reaffirming its commitment to working alongside UN Tourism, member states, and international partners. These efforts aim to enhance tourism's contribution to sustainable development, drive global economic growth, and reinforce the sector's role as a bridge for cultural exchange, in line with the UAE's vision of building a more prosperous and sustainable future.

June 12, 2026

DUBAI, SAN FRANCISCO and LONDON — Janus Henderson, a leading global active asset manager, today announced it is building a suite of AI-native tools to transform how it invests for and serves its clients, with Percepta, a General Catalyst transformation company, building the infrastructure and Anthropic's Claude serving as the AI model layer.

Janus Henderson manages nearly half a trillion dollars in assets for 75 million* clients worldwide, dedicating itself to helping clients define and achieve superior financial outcomes through differentiated insights, disciplined investments, and world-class service. The firm's view is that cutting-edge AI is most impactful when it enhances human expertise, empowering an even greater client-centric focus on investment and client service, which has differentiated Janus Henderson for over 92 years.

Building on Claude, Janus Henderson is putting that approach into practice in two ways that have the potential to shape the way the asset management industry utilizes AI.

First, it is developing new AI-native tools for its investment and client teams:

PRISM is a global client intelligence and engagement platform for Janus Henderson's distribution teams. Powered by Claude, it helps client-facing teams prioritize the right outreach, draw on internal and third-party data to understand what clients hold and need, and prepare personalized client communications, bringing a single, consistent tool to sales and marketing teams across regions.

LIBROS is an AI-native research management tool for Janus Henderson's investment teams. Powered by Claude, it synthesizes the firm's internal research alongside external research and public market data, helping analysts and portfolio managers surface relevant signals faster and spend more of their time on judgment and investment decisions.

Second, Janus Henderson is deploying Claude broadly across the firm, with Claude Code for its engineering teams and Cowork for employees across investment, distribution, and corporate functions, bringing AI further into everyday work.

PRISM and LIBROS are being built in collaboration with Janus Henderson’s technology teams and Percepta. Percepta helps large enterprises transform with AI by embedding AI engineers, researchers, and product managers directly inside an organization and leveraging the Percepta Mosaic platform to rapidly deliver agentic workflows and custom decision-making tools.

At Janus Henderson, Percepta's teams work alongside the firm's investment, distribution, and technology staff to build PRISM and LIBROS on Claude and to construct the data and knowledge foundation that connects Claude to Janus Henderson's proprietary research, client, and market data.

That embedded model addresses a problem that has slowed AI adoption across asset management: generic tools rarely fit how an active manager researches markets, manages portfolios, and serves clients. The value comes from connecting frontier AI to a firm's own data and rebuilding core workflows around it, which generally takes engineering built into the business, not software bought off a shelf.

Ali Dibadj, Chief Executive Officer of Janus Henderson, said: "We believe AI Transformation will fundamentally change the way asset managers serve their clients when it is embedded at the core of the business. This collaboration with Anthropic and Percepta builds on Janus Henderson’s partnership with Trian and General Catalyst, adds to our innovative leadership in AI and tokenization, and supports our ambition to be the most technologically sophisticated asset manager in the world. We believe it will enhance how we deliver for our clients—the 75 million people* worldwide who rely on us to build a brighter future together.”

Peter Nolan, Head of Asset & Wealth Management at Anthropic, said: "Asset management is a knowledge-intensive industry where reliable AI can help teams work faster and serve clients better. Janus Henderson is putting Claude directly into the hands of the teams managing investments and client relationships: from purpose-built tools like PRISM and LIBROS to Claude Code and Cowork across the firm.”

Hirsh Jain, Chief Executive Officer of Percepta, added: "Transforming industries with AI requires fundamentally rethinking how work gets done in organizations and engineering systems that are purpose-built for a new mode of operations. Working with Janus Henderson, we are focused on strengthening research and market intelligence and elevating client engagement. We are proud to collaborate with Janus Henderson and Anthropic in transforming the asset management industry."

The Power of Two Airflows: ‘REAL DUAL’ Technology

At the core of the DUALCOOL™ AI’s innovation is its unique REAL DUAL system, which allows for two separate airflows, which can be intelligently controlled to suit any situation. For rapid cooling across large spaces, a powerful direct ‘Long Air Flow’ can reach up to 22 meters.

On the other hand, when gentle comfort is preferred, the indirect airflow provides a ‘Soft Air’ breeze, eliminating chilly drafts and creating a more pleasant, evenly-cooled environment. This intelligent performance is delivered with a remarkably low noise level, ensuring that even when operating at its most powerful, the DUALCOOL™ AI remains almost silent, preserving the peace and quiet of the home.

NEW REPORT HIGHLIGHTS USD 4 BILLION EV CHARGING INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITY ACROSS EMERGING ECONOMIES

NEW REPORT HIGHLIGHTS USD 4 BILLION EV CHARGING INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITY ACROSS EMERGING ECONOMIES

Joint analysis by C40 Cities and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) outlines practical pathways for emerging-market cities to scale charging infrastructure and accelerate electric mobility adoption

A new report launched by C40 Cities and the World Bank Group’s International Finance Corporation (IFC), in collaboration with The Climate Pledge through the Laneshift Programme, and the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), highlights how city and national governments in emerging economies can play a decisive role in accelerating the implementation of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. The report, Market Analysis of Electric Vehicle (EV) Public Charging Infrastructure in Cities, analyses market trends, investment needs, regulatory frameworks and city-led initiatives across four countries: Brazil, Colombia, Mexico and India.

The analysis comes at a critical moment for the global electric mobility transition. According to the International Energy Agency’s Global EV Outlook 2025, the global stock of public charging points has more than doubled since 2022, surpassing 5 million chargers worldwide, with around 1.3 million new public chargers added in 2024 alone, representing an annual growth of more than 30% in the past five years. Projections show continued rapid growth in electric mobility over the next decade, with investment requirements for EV charging infrastructure across the four markets estimated to reach approximately USD 3.8 billion by 2035 (USD 1.9 billion in India, USD 980 million in Brazil, USD 760 million in Mexico and USD 184 million in Colombia).

Despite this rapid progress, deployment remains highly uneven, particularly across emerging economies where affordability, reliability and access to charging infrastructure continue to constrain EV adoption. Investments in charging infrastructure assets targeting personal mobility face the risk of slower-than-expected EV uptake, leading to lower utilization, revenues, and delayed profitability. This can lead to weak returns on investment and deters investors from investing in this sector.

The report finds that the rapid growth in electric vehicle adoption is creating unprecedented demand for charging infrastructure across both mature and emerging markets. In Brazil, Colombia, Mexico and India, EV uptake has expanded dramatically since 2021, driven by improving model availability, supportive policy frameworks, and declining technology costs. Across the four countries, sales grew from around 40,000 vehicles in 2021 to approximately 1.08 million vehicles in 2025, representing an annual growth rate of nearly 130%. By 2025, EVs accounted for approximately 6.5% of new vehicle sales in Brazil, 5.9% in Colombia, 6.2% in Mexico, and 3.7% in India.

Veronica Nyhan Jones, Global Manager Climate Partnerships and Cross Sector Expertise, International Finance Corporation (IFC), said:

“Electric vehicle adoption is accelerating rapidly across emerging markets, but sustaining this momentum will depend on whether charging infrastructure can scale at the same pace. Expanding reliable and accessible charging networks is essential not only for consumer confidence, but also for unlocking private investment and supporting long-term economic growth. This report shows that with the right policy frameworks, strong city leadership and targeted financing solutions, there are substantial potential investment opportunities on which emerging economies can build the infrastructure needed to support the next generation of sustainable urban mobility and jobs.”

The report also highlights the significant expansion of charging infrastructure across the four countries over the past five years. India reached approximately 30,000 public charging points by 2025; Brazil, approximately 17,000; Mexico, approximately 4,000; and Colombia, approximately 700. Yet despite this progress, charging infrastructure remains heavily concentrated in major metropolitan areas and economic hubs, underscoring the need for broader and more equitable geographic expansion to support large-scale EV adoption.

Meeting the next phase of electric mobility growth will require a major acceleration in charging deployment over the coming decade. The report projects that the total number of public chargers across the four countries will increase to approximately 359,000 units by 2035, including around 214,000 public chargers in India, 86,000 in Brazil, 40,000 in Mexico and 19,000 in Colombia, representing an investment opportunity of USD 3.8 billion+ over the next ten years.

Mark Watts, Executive Director of C40 Cities, said:

"Cities are already leading the transition to electric mobility by turning ambition into practical action, from electrifying public transport fleets to unlocking space, partnerships, and planning frameworks for charging infrastructure deployment. But if we are serious about scaling clean transport globally, particularly across emerging economies, we must also scale investment. Expanding access to finance for EV charging infrastructure will be essential to ensure cities can move faster, attract private capital, and deliver cleaner air, lower emissions, and more equitable mobility systems for millions of people.”

Cities can play a catalytic role

National governments typically retain authority over electricity markets, tariffs, and technical standards. Despite these constraints, the report finds that cities can still play a catalytic role in enabling charging deployment. Across the four emerging-market case studies, three city-level approaches consistently emerged as critical:

  • Using control over public land and urban space to facilitate charging deployment;

  • Leveraging public transport and municipal fleet electrification to create demand signals and anchor charging investment;

  • Establishing dedicated governance and coordination structures to streamline permitting, planning, and stakeholder engagement.

Cities across emerging economies are already demonstrating how local leadership can accelerate the rollout of charging infrastructure through planning, partnerships, public procurement, and institutional coordination. Rio de Janeiro has enabled charging pilots through its Sandbox.Rio initiative and facilitated access to municipal sites for infrastructure deployment; Bogotá has supported charging deployment through public-space regulation while advancing one of Latin America’s largest electric bus fleets; Mexico City has integrated charging infrastructure into broader mobility planning and supported electrification of the Metrobús BRT system; Pune established a dedicated EV Cell, introduced fiscal incentives for chargers, and deployed public charging infrastructure through public-private partnership models.

Eduardo Cavaliere, Mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, said:

“Cities have a critical role to play in accelerating the transition to electric mobility, particularly by creating the conditions that allow innovation and investment to move faster. In Rio, initiatives such as Sandbox.Rio and the use of municipal sites for pilot projects are helping demonstrate how cities can unlock opportunities for charging deployment. But scaling this transition will require greater access to finance and stronger partnerships between governments, utilities, and the private sector to expand charging infrastructure at the pace our cities need.”

Carlos Fernando Galán, Mayor of Bogotá, Colombia, said:

“Bogotá’s experience shows that ambitious public transport electrification can help transform urban mobility while creating demand for charging infrastructure at scale. As we continue advancing one of Latin America’s largest electric bus fleets, it is essential to mobilize investment that supports reliable, accessible, and affordable charging networks. Cities cannot do this alone. And facilitating finance and long-term partnerships will be key to accelerating the transition across emerging economies.”

Héctor Ulises García Nieto, Mexico City Mobility Secretary (SEMOVI) , Mexico, said:

“Electric mobility is not only about vehicles: it is about building integrated urban systems that improve air quality, reduce emissions, and expand access to sustainable transport. Mexico City has worked to integrate charging infrastructure into broader mobility planning, including the electrification of the Metrobús system. The next step is ensuring cities have the financial tools and investment support needed to scale charging infrastructure and deliver a cleaner urban future.”

Recommendations for cities in emerging economies

Based on the analysis, the report identifies several practical approaches cities can adopt to support charging infrastructure deployment:

  • Integrate EV charging into urban planning and land-use frameworks;

  • Use municipal assets and public land strategically for charging deployment;

  • Develop public-private partnership models to attract investment;

  • Align charging rollout with public transport and fleet electrification programs;

  • Establish dedicated governance structures and cross-agency coordination mechanisms;

  • Improve permitting clarity and reduce administrative barriers;

  • Support interoperability and open-access charging systems;

  • Coordinate closely with utilities and national governments on grid planning and regulatory frameworks.

It also draws lessons from mature EV charging markets such as the United Kingdom and the Netherlands. Key lessons include the importance of early-stage public funding to de-risk investment, municipal aggregation models to improve scale and coordination, and standardized interoperability frameworks to improve user experience and market confidence. The analysis also highlights that even mature markets continue to face challenges related to grid capacity, heavy-duty charging, and equitable geographic coverage, reinforcing the importance of long-term policy coordination.

Sarah Dimson-Tararuj, Head of Strategic Projects and Programs at The Climate Pledge, said:

“Scaling electric mobility requires more than vehicle adoption alone; it depends on building the charging infrastructure ecosystem that makes the transition practical, reliable, and accessible for communities and businesses alike. This report highlights the critical role cities can play in accelerating deployment through collaboration, innovation, and long-term planning. It also reinforces the importance of mobilizing investment and cross-sector partnerships to help emerging economies build lower-carbon, more resilient transport systems at scale.”
