$70 Billion GCC Industry Summit: MEFMA CONFEX 2025 Charts Strategic Roadmap for Next Era of Smart Cities

The 12th annual CONFEX drew a record audience of over 800 participants from 12 countries, cementing FM's role in the region's $2.7 Trillion construction pipeline.

• 30 awards were presented, highlighting excellence in operational efficiency and digital transformation.

Dubai, UAE, 11 November 2025: With the GCC Facility Management (FM) market valued at approximately $70 Billion in 2025 and infrastructure development surging under national visions, the 12th MEFMA CONFEX & the 4th edition of its Awards affirmed FM as a strategic value creator for the region. Held under the patronage of Dubai Municipality from 28–30 October 2025, the event brought together industry leaders to engineer smarter, more resilient built environments.

The event, which saw record participation featuring over 800 participants from across 12 countries, cemented MEFMA CONFEX’s standing as the region’s most dynamic and influential FM gathering. Celebrating its 15th anniversary, MEFMA also unveiled a refreshed brand identity, symbolising its journey of growth and forward-looking strategic roadmap. 

 

Over two dynamic days, industry leaders explored the role of technology, sustainability, and human capital in shaping cities, focusing on early FM integration, international standards (like ISO 41001), and measurable outcomes. Key discussions were anchored by verifiable regional data, for example:

• A major airport operator in the Middle East achieved a 30% reduction in compliance incidents through the implementation of integrated risk and business continuity management systems.
• Similarly, a coastal community development project improved its handover documentation completeness from 60% to 95%, leading to a 40% decrease in post-handover issues.

These results underscore how structured frameworks can significantly enhance operational efficiency and long-term asset sustainability.

The program also incorporated interactive platforms such as specialized workshops, the B2B Arena, the FM Consultation Hub, and exhibition which encouraged practical knowledge exchange, fostered collaboration, and connected participants with industry leaders to explore new opportunities and solutions.

 

Among the notable research presented during MEFMA CONFEX 2025, Tarek Nizameddin, General Manager of Elegancia Facilities Management, unveiled key findings from his case study “Challenges Facing Technology Adoption in FM”, which revealed that the pace of digital transformation in facilities management is shaped more by cultural and organisational factors than by technology itself. Based on extensive regional research, the study highlighted budget constraints and client conservatism as primary barriers and called for stronger leadership and unified GCC standards to accelerate the adoption of smart FM solutions.

 

The event featured insights from keynote speakers including Ali AlSuwaidi, Vice President of MEFMA, Duncan Waddell, International Chairman of ISO/TC 267 – FM, and other leaders, exploring AI readiness, workforce transformation, and the operational impact of data-driven FM practices.

 

The conference concluded with the MEFMA Awards Gala Dinner, honouring excellence, innovation, and leadership across 16 categories. These covered key segments including FM Clients and Owners, Service Providers, Suppliers and Technology Solution Providers, and Individual Professionals.

 

Jamal Lootah, President of MEFMA, said: “This year’s CONFEX was a clear statement: the FM sector is now a strategic value creator, driving efficiency and sustainability across the built environment. وشهد المؤتمر كذلك عرضًا بحثيًا مميزًا قدّمه المهندس طارق نِظام الدين، المدير العام لشركة إليغانسيا لإدارة المرافق، بعنوان «التحديات التي تواجه اعتماد التكنولوجيا في إدارة المرافق»، حيث كشف أن وتيرة التحول الرقمي في القطاع تتأثر بعوامل ثقافية وتنظيمية أكثر من التقنية ذاتها، مشيرًا إلى أن القيود الميزانية وتحفّظ بعض العملاء تُعدّ من أبرز العوائق، داعيًا إلى تعزيز القيادة وتوحيد المعايير على مستوى مجلس التعاون لتسريع التحول نحو إدارة مرافق ذكية.

كما قدّم المؤتمر كلمات رئيسية من نخبة من قادة القطاع، من بينهم علي السويدي، نائب رئيس جمعية الشرق الأوسط لإدارة المرافق، ودنكان واديل، رئيس اللجنة الدولية ISO/TC 267 لإدارة المرافق، إلى جانب خبراء آخرين تناولوا موضوعات التحول في القوى العاملة، والاستعداد للذكاء الاصطناعي، وتأثير الممارسات المعتمدة على البيانات في تحسين الأداء التشغيلي.

واختتمت فعاليات المؤتمر بحفل جوائز ميفما للتميّز في إدارة المرافق الذي كرّم الإبداع والريادة، حيث تم منح 30 جائزة موزعة على 16 فئة شملت عملاء إدارة المرافق، ومقدمي خدمات إدارة المرافق، وموردي إدارة المرافق، والمهنيين الأفراد، مما يعكس تنوع القطاع وتقدّمه.

 Abu Dhabi Art Programme to Showcase Artists Commissions in Cultural Sites

Abu Dhabi, 6 November 2025: Abu Dhabi Art has revealed participating artists for its 2025 Artist Commissions in Cultural Sites programme.

The Abu Dhabi-based trio Ramin Haerizadeh, Rokni Haerizadeh and Hesam Rahmanian, alongside Nike Davies-Okundaye, and Issam Kourbaj, have been invited to showcase their commissioned works at Al Ain City, opening to the public from 19^th November 2025 and remaining in exhibition until 26^th April 2026.

 

Supported by the Global Partner of Abu Dhabi Art, HSBC reaffirms its support of the fair’s mission to connect contemporary artistic practices with the UAE’s rich heritage. Through its partnership, HSBC supports programmes such as the Cultural Sites Commissions, reinforcing the bank’s commitment to fostering cultural dialogue and expanding access to art in diverse communities.

 

Ramin Haerizadeh, Rokni Haerizadeh and Hesam Rahmanian will present their new work Luminous Shadow at Hili Archaeological Park. The Arch explores the sinuous, dynamic qualities of Arabic and Pahlavi scripts as visual embodiments of sound. These scripts, framed as hieroglyphic serpentine notations of symbolic resonance, emphasise entangled forms and expressive modulation of consonants. The trio commented “At Hili Archaeological Park, the largest Bronze Age site in the Emirates, the Arch rises from the silent depths of the sand. We are honoured to be participating in this edition of Abu Dhabi Art’s public art commissions, a moment that allows us to bring this work into dialogue with such an ancient and significant site.”

Al Ain Oasis will be home to Nike Davies-Okundaye’s large-scale tapestry installation, combining embroidery, appliqué, and adire, dyed cotton textile. Stemming from initial reference to symbolic backdrops used in Yoruba travelling theatre in the 1950s in Nigeria this site-specific commission is inspired by the palm tree and its place in the ecosystem of the Oasis. Her installation features a tapestry of connected palm trees and represents the shared values between the UAE and Nigeria. “I’m so happy to be invited to create an installation at Al Ain Oasis. Being there last year was such a beautiful experience, and I’m excited to return this year and share more of our African culture and stories. Art connects people, and I’m grateful for this chance to keep building that connection through creativity and tradition. This opportunity shows us how deeply connected we all are through creativity, culture and tradition.” commented Nike Davies-Okundaye.

Issam Kourbaj has conceived of intimate interventions across the cityscape of Al Ain located at several key cultural sites. The artist has placed camera obscuras at these sites, enabling visitors to interact with the works and experience the cultural sites in new ways. Participating sites include, Al Qattara Oasis. Kourbaj commented “It’s an honour to be part of Abu Dhabi Art’s Al Ain commission, to witness a land where light remembers and ancient towers stand as witnesses. Through the lens of the camera obscura, I explore the word Al Ain, in Arabic, as both eye and spring, revealing the delicate interplay between perception, place, and time. I look forward to walking alongside the Al Ain community and offering a reading of this remarkable place, like a spring, ever alive.”

Organised by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, this year’s Abu Dhabi Art will take place from 19^th to 23^rd November at Manarat Al Saadiyat. The fair is extended by a year-round programme, encompassing commissions, exhibitions, and a strong focus on educational outreach.
