DRYDOCKS WORLD SECURES FPSO BAOBAB IVOIRIEN REFURBISHMENT AND LIFE EXTENSION PROJECT

  

 

 

Once refurbished, the vessel will operate for 15 more years, continuing to support energy production in West Africa.

 

Dubai, UAE, 24 March 2025: Drydocks World has been awarded the contract for the refurbishment and life extension of the FPSO BAOBAB IVOIRIEN, by MODEC Management Services Pte. Ltd., further strengthening its position as a global leader in complex offshore asset upgrades.

 

Set to commence in May 2025, the eight-month expedited project on the Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel will involve extensive structural enhancements, including 1,000 tonnes of steel renewal, 250,000 square meters of tank coating, and 11,500 meters of new piping.

 

The scope also covers enhancements to crew living quarters and integration of advanced technologies to boost its efficiency and reliability. Upon completion, the vessel’s lifespan will be extended by 15 years, ensuring sustained energy production for West Africa.

 

Drydocks World, a DP World company, has a proven track record in vessel refurbishments, life extensions and conversions, having successfully completed over 50 similar projects, including more than 30 FPSO upgrades. This latest contract underscores its unmatched expertise in offshore engineering and life extension solutions while reaffirming its commitment to delivering tailored solutions that meet the unique operational needs of its clients.

 

The FPSO BAOBAB IVOIRIEN plays a crucial role in West Africa’s offshore production, with a processing capacity of 70,000 barrels of oil per day (bpd) and 75 million cubic feet of natural gas. It can also inject 100,000 bpd of water and store up to two million barrels of crude oil. The vessel, currently operating at the Baobab oil field, 25 km off the coast of Côte d'Ivoire, will relocate to Drydocks World’s Dubai facility for its eight-month refurbishment.

 

The contract signing ceremony, held at Drydocks World, was attended by Rado Antolovic, CEO of Drydocks World, and Gary Kennedy, President of MODEC Management Services Pte. Ltd.

بعد اكتمال أعمال التجديد، ستواصل السفينة عملياتها لمدة 15 عاماً إضافياً لدعم إنتاج الطاقة غرب إفريقيا.

 

دبي، الإمارات العربية المتحدة، 24 مارس 2025: أعلنت شركة الأحواض الجافة العالمية التابعة لمجموعة موانئ دبي العالمية "دي بي ورلد"، عن حصولها على عقد لتجديد وتمديد العمر التشغيلي لسفينة تخزين وتفريغ الإنتاج العائمة "باوباب إيفواريان"، من قبل شركة "موديك مانجمنت سيرفيسز بي تي إي ليمتد"، مما يُعزز مكانتها الشركة الرائدة على مستوى العالم في مجال تجديد الأصول البحرية المعقدّة.

ومن المقرر أن تنطلق عمليات المشروع في مايو 2025 وتستمر لمدة ثمانية أشهر، حيث ستشمل تحسينات هيكلية واسعة النطاق على السفينة، من ضمنها تجديد 1,000 طن من الفولاذ، وطلاء 250 ألف متر مربع من الخزانات، وتركيب 11,500 متر من الأنابيب الجديدة.

كما يشمل نطاق العمل تحسين أماكن إقامة الطاقم ودمج تقنيات متطورة لتعزيز كفاءة السفينة واعتماديتها. وعند اكتمال المشروع، سيتمّ تمديد عمر السفينة لمدة 15 عاماً إضافياً، مما يضمن استمرارية عمليات إنتاج الطاقة في منطقة غرب إفريقيا.

تحظى الأحواض الجافة العالمية التابعة بسجلّ حافل في مجال تجديد السفن وتمديد عمرها التشغيلي وتحويلها، حيث أكملت أكثر من 50 مشروعاً مماثلاً، بما في ذلك أكثر من 30 عملية تحديث لسفن تخزين وتفريغ الإنتاج العائمة. ويؤكد هذا التعاقد الجديد على خبرتها الفريدة في الهندسة البحرية وحلول تمديد العمر التشغيلي، مع التزامها المستمر بتقديم حلول مخصّصة تلبي الاحتياجات التشغيلية لعملائها.

ومن جهة أخرى، تساهم سفينة "باوباب إيفواريان" بدور محوري في عمليات الإنتاج البحري في غرب إفريقيا، حيث تبلغ قدرتها الإنتاجية 70 ألف برميل نفط يومياً، و75 مليون قدم مكعب من الغاز الطبيعي. كما يمكنها ضخ 100 ألف برميل من المياه يومياً وتخزين ما يصل إلى مليوني برميل من النفط الخام. وتعمل السفينة حالياً في حقل باوباب النفطي، الذي يبعد 25 كيلومتراً عن ساحل كوت ديفوار، وسيتمّ نقل السفينة إلى منشأة الأحواض الجافة العالمية في دبي لتنفيذ أعمال التجديد التي تستغرق ثمانية أشهر.

أقيمت مراسم توقيع العقد في مقرّ شركة الأحواض الجافة العالمية، بحضور القبطان الدكتور رادو أنتولوفيتش، الرئيس التنفيذي للشركة، وغاري كينيدي، رئيس شركة "موديك مانجمنت سيرفيسز بي تي إي ليمتد".

وبهذه المناسبة، قال القبطان الدكتور رادو أنتولوفيتش، الرئيس التنفيذي لشركة الأحواض الجافة العالمية: "تؤكد اتفاقيتنا مع "موديك" على خبرتنا العريقة في تنفيذ مشاريع تجديد وتمديد العمر التشغيلي لسفن التخزين والتفريغ العائمة. وبفضل سجلّنا الحافل بتنفيذ المشاريع الهندسية البحرية الضخمة، أصبحنا الشريك المثالي في تمديد العمر التشغيلي للسفن وتعزيز كفاءتها وسلامتها التشغيلية. ونحن فخورون بدعم "موديك" في ضمان الكفاءة والموثوقية طويلة الأمد لهذه السفينة."

تم تحويل سفينة "باوباب إيفواريان" في عام 2003 من ناقلة نفط خام عملاقة؛ حيث تمّ تصميمها بسطح علوي قابل للتوسعة بهدف زيادة القدرة الإنتاجية البحرية. وتعتبر سفن التخزين والتفريغ العائمة ضرورية للعمليات في المياه العميقة، حيث تتيح معالجة النفط والغاز في البحر قبل نقل الموارد إلى الناقلات أو خطوط الأنابيب.

Somalia joins Afreximbank as it seeks to boost Intra-African trade and economic growth

Somalia’s membership of Afreximbank is a significant milestone that places the country on a path of sustainable economic transformation, upgrading of the country’s trade and industrial infrastructure

CAIRO, Egypt, March 24, 2025/ -- Somalia has formally acceded to the Establishment Agreement of African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) (www.Afreximbank.com), becoming the 53rd African member state of the African multilateral financial institution and bringing the Bank closer to its goal of broadening its product offerings to all parts of the continent.   In the instrument of accession signed by Hon. Hirsi Jama Gani, State Minister, Office of the Prime Minister, Somalia notified Afreximbank that Somalia “accepts, and hereby accedes, to the Agreement for the Establishment of the Bank” and pledged to undertake all necessary steps to expedite ratification of the Agreement.  Somalia’s membership of Afreximbank is a significant milestone that places the country on a path of sustainable economic transformation, upgrading of the country’s trade and industrial infrastructure, and most importantly joins the rest of the continent in the push towards continental integration and self-reliance through the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).  Expressing deep satisfaction at Somalia’s decision to accede to the Agreement, Prof. Benedict Oramah, President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Afreximbank, emphasised the mutual benefits to both parties.  "We are delighted to welcome Somalia into the Afreximbank family. Tapping the world’s next generation to make food production more sustainable - Nestlé and UNESCO unveil global initiative

 

Entries are open to Youth from across the world including the Middle East and North Africa

One hundred teams of young social impact innovators will receive grants to develop relevant skills and solutions that enhance the resilience and sustainability of food systems with a focus on regenerative agricultural practices, climate change mitigation and packaging sustainability innovations. The objective will be to help 500,000 people directly or indirectly.

 

Building on the success of a pilot launched in Latin America in 2023, which engaged 20 young leaders and benefitted 130,000 community members, Youth Impact: Because You Matter aims to expand its impact globally and zooming in on the challenges facing food systems, a topic of high relevance to Nestlé as a food company. 

 

One notable project from the pilot, Earth-IoT: Conectando el Campo, used digital tools to improve efficiency, profitability, and sustainability in Mexican rural areas. This initiative resulted in a 50% increase in farmers' income projections, a 40% reduction in fertilizer usage, and a 30% decrease in water and energy consumption, significantly lowering the carbon footprint throughout the agricultural cycle.

 

Young people today are struggling to find work because they are lacking the skills that employers are looking for.[1] The agriculture and food sector has the highest rate of skills misalignments.[2] At the same time, young people are showing less interest in farming, while agriculture is also evolving. The increasing need to produce food in a sustainable way while at the same time ensuring food security for a growing population means new skills are needed.[3]

 

This is why Nestlé and UNESCO are supporting youth aged 18-30 in developing and launching business ideas that aim to make the production, processing, transportation and consumption of food more resilient and sustainable. At the same time, they hope to strengthen economies and ensure higher rates of youth employment.

 

"A highly qualified future workforce and a more resilient supply of raw materials are essential to Nestlé’s long-term success,” said Laurent Freixe, CEO of Nestlé. “We're facing the challenge of feeding a growing population while addressing the cause and effect of climate change. These are critical challenges that require decisive actions. That’s why we are supporting young changemakers in solving them.”

 

David Moloto, Nestlé Human Resources Director Middle East and North Africa, added: "Nestlé is committed to supporting Youth in developing future-ready skills. By equipping the next generation with the necessary resources, we are paving the way for innovative solutions that will not only address current challenges in food production but also ensure the resilience of our communities. I encourage young innovators from the region to apply and contribute to this impactful initiative.”

 

Youth Impact: Because You Matter will provide trainings and mentoring programs to the grantees that are tailored to their needs and priorities. Those trainings will be developed in part by Nestlé's Youth Entrepreneurship Platform (YEP), which will also serve as the central hub through the six-month capability-building program.

 

The program aligns with Nestlé's broader Nestlé needs YOUth initiative, which has helped ten million young people access economic opportunities over the past decade. It also reinforces the company's long-term commitment to youth as part of its revamped strategy, which includes support for young people to develop future-ready skills by 2030, to foster the next generation of employees, agripreneurs and food entrepreneurs.

 تهدف إلى دعم مواهب جيل الشباب للمساهمة في إنتاج غذاء أكثر استدامة

المبادرة مفتوحة للشباب من جميع أنحاء العالم بما في ذلك منطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال أفريقيا

 

سيحصل مئة فريق من المبتكرين الشباب ذوي التأثير الاجتماعي على منح لتطوير مهاراتهم وحلول فعّالة تُسهم في تعزيز مرونة واستدامة النظم الغذائية، مع التركيز على ممارسات الزراعة التجديدية، والتخفيف من آثار تغير المناخ، وابتكارات التعبئة والتغليف المستدامة، وذلك بهدف مساعدة 500,000 شخص بشكل مباشر أو غير مباشر.

 

وبناءً على نجاح برنامج تجريبي تم إطلاقه في أمريكا اللاتينية في عام 2023، والذي شارك فيه 20 من القادة الشباب واستفاد منه 130 ألف فرد في المجتمع، يهدف برنامج "تأثير الشباب: لأن دورك مهم" إلى توسيع تأثيره عالمياً والتركيز على التحديات التي تواجه النظم الغذائية - وهو موضوع ذو أولوية كبيرة لشركة نستله بصفتها شركة أغذية.

 

ومن بين المشاريع الرائدة التي يشملها البرنامج، مشروع Earth-IoT: Conectando el Campo، الذي اعتمد على الأدوات الرقمية لتحسين الكفاءة والربحية والاستدامة في المناطق الريفية المكسيكية. وقد أدت هذه المبادرة عن زيادة في توقعات دخل المزارعين بنسبة 50%، وانخفاض في استخدام الأسمدة بنسبة 40%، وانخفاض في استهلاك المياه والطاقة بنسبة 30%، مما أدى إلى انخفاض ملحوظ في البصمة الكربونية خلال الدورة الزراعية.

 

ويُكافح الشباب اليوم للعثور على فرص عمل بسبب افتقارهم إلى المهارات التي يبحث عنها أصحاب العمل.[1] ويُسجل قطاع الزراعة والأغذية أعلى معدل على صعيد عدم التوافق في المهارات.[2] علاوة على ذلك، يُبدي الشباب اهتماماً أقل بالزراعة، في حين أن الزراعة تتطور أيضاً. وتتطلب الحاجة المُلحة لإنتاج الغذاء بشكل مستدام مع ضمان الأمن الغذائي لعدد سكان متزايد، مهارات جديدة.[3]

 

وانطلاقاً من هذا الواقع، تدعم نستله واليونسكو الشباب الذين تتراوح أعمارهم بين 18 و30 عاماً بهدف تطوير وإطلاق أفكار مشاريع ترمي إلى جعل إنتاج الأغذية ومعالجتها ونقلها واستهلاكها أكثر مرونةً واستدامة. وفي الوقت نفسه، تأمل نستله واليونسكو في تعزيز الاقتصادات وضمان معدلات أعلى من توظيف الشباب.

 

في السياق، قال لوران فريكس، الرئيس التنفيذي لشركة نستله: "إن وجود قوى عاملة مؤهلة تأهيلاً عالياً في المستقبل، وتوفير إمدادات أكثر مرونة من المواد الخام، أمران أساسيان لنجاح نستله على المدى الطويل. نواجه تحدي توفير الغذاء لعدد متزايد من السكان، مع معالجة أسباب وتأثيرات تغير المناخ. هذه تحديات  تتطلب إجراءات حاسمة. ولذلك، ندعم رواد التغيير الشباب لإيجاد الحلول لها".

 

بدوره، قال ديفيد مولوتو، مدير الموارد البشرية في نستله لمنطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال أفريقيا: "تلتزم نستله بدعم الشباب في تطوير مهاراتهم المستقبل. ومن خلال تزويد الجيل القادم بالموارد اللازمة، نمهد الطريق لحلول مبتكرة لا تقتصر على معالجة التحديات الحالية في إنتاج الغذاء فحسب، بل تضمن أيضًا مرونة مجتمعاتنا. أشجع المبدعين الشباب من المنطقة على التقديم والمساهمة في هذه المبادرة الفعّالة."

 

وسيوفر برنامج " تأثير الشباب: لأن دورك مهم" دورات تدريب وتوجيه معدة خصيصاً للمستفيدين من المنح. وستُطوّر منصة نستله لريادة الأعمال للشباب (YEP) هذه البرامج التدريبية جزئياً، وستكون أيضاً بمثابة المحور الرئيسي طوال برنامج بناء القدرات الذي يستمر على مدى ستة أشهر.

 

ويتماشى البرنامج مع مبادرة "نستله تحتاج الشباب" والتي ساعدت 10 ملايين شاب وشابة على الوصول إلى فرص اقتصادية خلال العقد الماضي. كما يعكس البرنامج التزام الشركة طويل الأمد تجاه الشباب كجزء من استراتيجيتها المحدثة، والتي تشمل دعم الشباب في تطوير مهاراتهم المُؤهلة للمستقبل بحلول عام 2030، ورعاية الجيل القادم من الموظفين ورواد الأعمال في مجال الزراعة ورواد الأعمال في قطاع الأغذية.
